Mal was a bit foolish, but making jokes about the English, the Scots, and the Irish has been happening for years without causing uproar, and we joke about Rangas here, so what is the big deal?
The clamour seems to me more about hysterical political correctness than anything else.

I don't feel personally insulted if anyone makes jokes about my ancestors - Saxons, Danes, and Celts from Cornwall.
I do occasionally suggest that a certain German interloper could keep the Prince of Wales title, and just hand over the Duchy of Cornwall to someone whose ancestors came from Penzance.
I don't expect to be taken seriously, but I'd accept the income if I could get help making him feel guilty enough to do it.

I was supporting pp's post above mine, Wedgie.
My comments about my own background were a gentle way of suggesting some people are over sensitive, perhaps even paranoid, about their ancestry.

I don't know why people who weren't counted on the census until the 1960's, have a higer infant mortality and high school drop out rate and a lower life expectancy can be so precious. You'd think they'd harden the **** up.

I'm not suggesting those serious wrongs should not be corrected REB. I voted for reform towards recognising our Aboriginal population at the referendum in the 1970s.
I'm just suggesting we don't need to make a big drama over trivial stupidity on the part of one not very astute man.

Speaking of, does anyone know if TV channels will continue with 3 letter acronyms for World Cup teams if Nigeria play Germany?

A bit unfair on Nigeria as they deserve to be in front of Germany just as much as the other way around.

Yeah mate, not suggesting otherwise but while I agree he is not an astute man those comments won't be consigned to the dustbin of history unless people publicly state it's not good enough IMO.

Dipper now in potential hot water.

REB's comments (albeit with sarcasm filter applied) are spot on IMO. I work in the Health industry and see these alarming stats on a regular basis. I also have English and Italian parents but don't take offense to being called a Pom or a Wog. I'm Australian as far as I'm concerned anyway but am not made to feel inferior or of a different class of society as my life isn't affected by my heritage or race. Those who are affected by this for many reasons (such as Indigenous) would have a different view.

Interestingly it's more often the non-indigenous among us who take more offense.

I have those moments where I think everyone should lighten up and political correctness has gone mad, which in some cases it has, but it's not a simple issue.

I will preceed my comment by stating 2 of my closest friends have indigenous blood in them..

Whilst Brown and Dippers comments are way out of line, when is all this preciousness going to stop.?
Ethnics, Poms etc have copped it for years...
The racial sensitivity from the wrong doings to indigenous people in years gone by is justified without doubt, but surely it is generational.
Somehow I think that now it's a case of helping those that help themselves, and in my opinion only, I am not sure that an element of the current generation do that too well and look for all this type of stuff to keep their case rolling..
Stupid comments, in bad taste, but certainly not world changing issues surely...
