Team to most improve?
Willunga in any danger in 09?
I think Yank will be the dark horse in 2009, finished last year of really well and play with alot of passion. As for Willunga, i'd put alot of $$$ on them to finish minor premiers maybe with a 15-3 win/loss and to make the Grand Final. Their finals record speaks for itself, but every finals series is a different ball game. Their run of premierships has to come to an end at some stage and i think BJ and his cliche's are very much spot on for 2009. Creeks will be the one's to really challenge the Demons.
Yank are definitely a smokey spot on Damian! Victor are the other side i can see making a run at the big one. Luke Ellis will have them primed and playing an exciting style of footy, Sammy J and Pitto will be the bookends and straighten them up, something they certainly need!!! The Creeks will be right there at the end of the season along with Strathalbyn from what im hearing. Havent heard much from Compass, has Bailey departed? Schmidt? Cheetham? They did the right thing in recruiting some height in the Creek brothers, but they will not win them games when it comes to the crunch. Burdett still the key up there!
Not a bad comment BJ
By the way Portlock is nowhere near past it. A good player to watch, but could work on a little defensive action...up from none
[]Encounter Bay...A proven Coach who talks a lot, a real lot. They will miss the skills of the two Love boys, but not miss their lack of discipline.
Will also miss the steadying influence of Heuskes. Not too sure how the boys from Maccy will take the step up and Mitchell has to be closer to 40 than 35 but will kick his 40 goals from the pocket.
Goolwa.. New Coach and I am unsure how much coaching he has done, however he has been in top 5 sides as a player so I am sure he will add a bit. Ewer a good pick up but may need some help. Good junior programme will help over time
Victor...Ellis is a gun player and his brother a big in. Will miss Saunders. Some decent juniors on the way up. Too much for too few
Mclaren ..They have done well to appoint Steve Hill, who is a well respected and proven Coach. Hart can play, but may need to lose a couple of KG. Young Fenoughty will add some pace and they have a young squad with top juniors coming in
Willunga.... Top side by far, well coached and great depth. Do they still have the passion? you would think so however the other sides might have a bit more to play for. Guitink in for Ryan. The Moose can be covered.
Compass. A much improved club. Solid Juniors and a couple of decent recruits. They did however dissappoint in the finals. Webb and Burdett in the middle are dangerous and Fromm works very very hard ;
Strath.. Red Shoes the go. Flogged in Grand Final and that might hurt. Outside side with pace and run forward well. Lost a few from last year.
Still in top 4
Langhornes. Look a real threat to Willunga and Strath. Great recruits
Myponga...Will struggle No depth
Yank....Lost a few and got a few.
Top 4 Willunga, Langhornes, Strath and Compass
followed by Encounter Bay, Victor and McLaren fighting for 5th
Yank, Goolwa and Myponga
