Im talking about kids of Junior Colt and Senior Colt age, and if you think that ok mate its no wonder clubs struggle to contain kids.I think a kid should be playing footy because of the love for the sport not the pay cheque. All clubs recruit players not as good as what they have in their own backyard, and the other 9 clubs in this comp are no different than Goolwa so i would maybe suggest you dont throw stones in glass houses.Toughcall wrote:Disagree, if a kid is good enough he shopuld be paid accordingly. Why pay guys from town who are not as good and that has been a big issue at the Saints/Magpies.

I agree WOW but TC obviously thinks its ok,maybe that where he sees Goolwas problem as they try and keep away from paying locals other than fuel money.words of wisdom wrote:Toughcall wrote:Disagree, if a kid is good enough he shopuld be paid accordingly. Disagree on paying your locals. When i was at pongy we didnt pay anyone, that were classed as locals (played colts etc), apart from one player who got petrol money to drive from the city twice a week to train. If you pay one local where do you stop? There would be cases where you may have to pay locals, e.g if someone like Ben Warren or David Hams wanted to return to local club then you could understand it.

I can tell you Mex that Goolwa do not have a base payment of any kind, and i doubt that even if they did it would keep the likes of Jurek ,Mckinlay, etc, etc, etc at the club .The Mexican wrote:luvayarn wrote:I agree WOW but TC obviously thinks its ok,maybe that where he sees Goolwas problem as they try and keep away from paying locals other than fuel money.words of wisdom wrote:Toughcall wrote:Disagree, if a kid is good enough he shopuld be paid accordingly. I need some clarification on this "pay" scenario you are discussing... Surely each A grade side has a "base" payment (not a very big amount mind you) that all 21 players receive, do they not..?? If so, are you talking about over and above..??

with all respect Mex that is MV not Goolwa , i would imagine over that 20 years your sponsorship and player incentives would also be alot more than Goolwas. The Mexican wrote:Gee that surprises me... Any other clubs the same..?? The amount i'm talking about as a base is certainly not what eventually determines whether a player will stay or not, just gives them a few bucks in the hand every saturday night and i would say that 80% would be returned over the bar that night anyway... I've been at MV for 20 years and we've always had a "base" payment...

No base payments at Myponga but if you win you get a $30 drinks/meal voucher to spend at the club.
I hear what your saying TC, Ferg is a good young player but what has he done in footy to deserve cash?

Toughcall wrote:Not a lot yet WOW, but with the points system in place clubs are silly if they do not try and attract 0 points players to their club and hopefully for the Bays he will be a 10 year player for them. It is the system that is in and you have to work it as best you can.

Im not confused, in your post at the top of the page you said kids, in my book kids are lads of a colts age.The problem i see with paying locals is you pay 1 you pay all,and to finish Ferg never ever asked the club for money he just up and left when offered money from EBay instead of coming to the club and having a chat about it.Toughcall wrote:No, l don't think it is OK to pay junior colts or senior colts. You are confused. All I am saying as WOW has that if a local is good enough he shoould get something. That is all and if you disagree then you will cause problems in a footy club when the recruits do not measure up.

The Mexican wrote:So with no base payments at most it seems (altho Mypo appear to have someting in place that i am talking about) what would be the average number of "paid" players form club to club do you think..??

I'd prefer not to mention that on here, but let me assure you that it is not very much at all... Enough to get your night started is about it...
