This is easy to type as a non-North melbourne Supporter, well I was once as a 7 year old when Cornesy crossed over the border in 1979, when he came back I regained my senses!!!
This current scenario has 1986 all over it again with Fitzroy's 1st planned move to Brisbane. The NMFC and the anti-North relocation have rocks in their head if they think they can stave off a move to the Gold Coast. The AFL/VFL have a very good track history of getting what they want when it comes to teh structure of their competition:
1981-82 Sydney
1986 A team in Brisbane, Perth
1990 An Adel team
1992 keep Sydney alive so pump cash into them
1994 a second team in Perth
1996 want Port in so need to get rid of Fitzroy (threaten a 17th team, threaten to reduce funds if they stay and at the same time offer incentives for Fitzroy to go to Bris (sound eerilie familiar))
North Melbourne can delay relocating by appointing a pro Melbourne board and for 3-5 years it will survive but long term as AFL club turnovers reach 40 Mill (they are 30 Mill now and only years ago 20 mill) will North be able to generate that amount of cash flow based in melbourne with nine other clubs??
Make no mistake the AFL will reduce support to North if it decides to let the heart rule the head. It will put in a 17th team as it want a second side out of SE QLd so if it stays in Melbourne it will wither and die a la Fitzroy.
MAke the decision to relocate now and North can control the inevitable (as much as the old North Melbourne identity colours song emblem etc can be retained of their previous 100 odd years of history).
Fight it they will just delay the inevitable and North fans will have to accept at best a merger or at worst folding where part of all of their North Melbourne identity will be lost.
As we SA found in 1989 - 1990 if the AFL/VFL want something they will get it as unfortunetly money talks and they have it and control it when it comes to the Australian Football industry.

Basically Adelaide, West Coast, Port Power, Freo, Sydney and Brisbane would have to give up a home game so Collingwood can play "away" at the Gold Coast

Please explain ..you think that Adelaide would be forced to Play a HOME game against Collingwood at the Gold Coast or Have I miss read that .......I surely must have as that is the biggest and most ridiculous conspiracy theory I have ever heard.
