To be fair, when you're behind and coming home with a gale there's really not much option other than to attack.

Question for those at the game, could South have done more with their last use of the breeze in the 3rd quarter to give themselves a bigger buffer at 3/4 time?

I would like to see teams in South's position try a forward flood - work like buggery into the wind to get the ball into their fifity then all flood down to try and keep it there, even if it was down there for five minutes before getting a crack at goal. Would certainly give the opposition something to think about.

I'm not sure that would work, but good thinking. You still have to address to problem of turnovers, and there are plenty in football. The thing about windy conditions is it is still possible to attack into the breeze provided you keep the ball low and accurate when kicking to a team mate. You must be prepared to run and create space.

That's too hard for most teams, so it's easier to just flood the backlines :)

Luck does play a big part in footy. Norwood were lucky to be playing South, any other team would have put us to the sword by half time.

Boos and hisses to Clay Sampson for the mind numbingly dull tactics in the last quarter, if his team had have scored (or even attempted to mind you) they probably would have won the game. To be outcoached by Trevor Hill should forever remain a black stain on his record.

Well done to us I guess. To come back from seven goals down and playing like Norwood only can when they're not switched on is some kind of achievement. However the first half, when taking into account the relentless mediocrity of the opposition was the worst half of football I've seen us play this year. And that takes some doing. The third quarter was great and featured two of the best marks you're ever going to see, JD and Bryce's running back with the flight of the ball.

Am I the only person that believes one of Norwoods' plethora of ex AFL players should have been reported? An action similar to that would have resulted in a 3 week suspension at AFL level.
The umpire who clearly saw the incident put his whistle to his mouth but declined to blow it for a free kick. The player, who had his head over the football ,Mitch Sandery was clearly concussed with blood pouring from his face. He returned later in the game with a fresh jumper and a rather gruesome bandage.

LOL at a South fan pointing out another teams ex AFL players.
LOL at a South fan moaning about an incident where a free kick wasn't even paid.
LOL at the fact I've read more comments by South fans today than I heard all day yesterday.

However not LOL if he was clearly concussed and sent back out to play. Poor form by the medicos, unless of course he wasn't concussed at all.

No, just saying that perhaps a player that is prepared to put his head over the ball should get some sort of protection from a player that charges in recklessly and splits his head open.

Agree AH about being committed to running into the wind. Regarding skills, surely it would be better to make mistakes in your forward rather than back fifty, where anything up to 65 mts out can be a scoring opportunity. But the skills wouldn't matter so much in the forward 50, because the opposition still then have to run back. Plus, part of the idea is that it doesn't matter if the ball goes out of bounds or packs form etc.

Correct. Shortly after 3/4 time in the reserves match South coach Tony Burgess recieved a phone call in the box from a crows official asking/telling? him to remove player R Shirley from the ground. Obviously called up for todays game.

Apparently in the U18's match the second quarter was cancelled after a Norwood player was seriously injured. An ambulance was called and entered the ground to take the young lad to hospital, play was halted for nearly 20 minutes, while perhaps a dozen trainers including the league trainers and doctors attended to him. I dont suppose anyone has heard how the young lad is?

This was the info given to us on the Legs forum yesterday by TM...

For those who were in attendance, Geoffrey Penfold was knocked unconscience after a clash of heads with a team-mate half-way through the 2ns quarter. An Ambulance was called and actually parked beside the player on ground to attend. Subsequently substancial loss of game time was incurred. I can report that Geoffrey was tken to hospital for observation however is feeling much better albeit for a headache and concussion. Full marks to South U18 coach Robbie Neill for putting the interests of the game before those of his team.

I don't think Tony Dey "clearly" saw it. He was clearly blind-sided and therefore didn't pay a free. I was pretty close to it .... thought it was a free but didn't think it needed to be a report.

Norwood run and carried it more into the wind in the third quarter than South did in the fourth. Probably the cornerstone as to why they kicked four goals in the third and South kicked nothing in the last. They rarely handballed in the final term, South. Norwood looked like a thousand bucks when they were running with the ball into the wind.
