I didn't think we played too badly today. Other than a 10 minute period late in the third quarter we were right up there with them. At the end I thought were we going to pull another win from nowhere, but it wasn't to be. Ultimately, two turnovers in front of Sturts goals and we lose by 13 points.

Did anyone else hear that wanker on 5RPH after the game with that anti-Laird rubbish. I don't think he realises theres only 21 spots in the league side and when someone like Gowans is available for selection you cannot overlook him. Unfortunately, Haddin was the unlucky one to be dropped, but he'll be back in the league side in the not-too-distant future. Also, what was with that supporters are going to start a coup to get rid of Laird rubbish. I for one aint thinking we need a new coach.

There'd only be one guy I'd accept as a replacement and he coached the side that beat you today!

I didn't hear him, but I think I've heard him before. A guy rang a couple of weeks ago getting stuck into Laird. I was listening to what he had to say until he started getting stuck into Callinan ... and it was Callinan's first game back from injury. The man's obviously a fool.

He supports a club who has won 6 flags in 8 years, and he's not happy.

I heard that, too. After the Woodville match, Central had just lost two in a row and the knives were out.

You could give everyone a wheelbarrow full of money and there'd be some people complaining about the colour of the barrow.

I agree with some posters. Both Gowans bros did look slow today. And neither had any impact. As for the 3/4 time incident well one bloke involved said that he was surprised to see "a brother" come from the bench to amplify things a bit. Good blokes off the field perhaps, but their tactics didn't work today. Sturt too classy and should have won by more. Led by Captain Nelson in his best game for the year, Luke Crane tore the Centrals midfield apart. Kurtze did very well again, not only in ruck contests, but also around the ground. And how about young Fittock! This lad is getting better and better. Chambers another lazy 6 and Sheedy worked tirelessy all day. Whiteman was instrumental in the stoppages..and there was a lot of them...a dour struggle at times with Madness at the bottom of quite a few packs.

Funniest thing today was the banter. "Chambers is a protected species" and "deliberate" (including "deliberate point") spring to mind. Every time Thomas got near the ball some bloke would shout out "Take his number!". THug

Apart from 10 mins early in the last quarter a very polished effort by the Blues today. The Dogs threw everything at Sturt and Sturt prevailed.

Lets have a look at this. One Gowans had his 1st league game back from injury, the other is carrying an injury whilst getting through a tough 4-5 week training programme.( for those that are unaware of what successful teams do this time of year is lift the workrate on the track in preparation for finals time  ) Time will tell who is and who isnt up and running in Sept, Oct action.
Very easy to throw stones at those who are passionate about their footy, but fact is those 2 will go down Central greats and would have easily fit into any other clubs lineups. Its also very easy to knock footballers who at their other end of their careers, maybe just sit back and think what they have done for Centrals and what they could have done if they were at your club since 2000. Have any of you ever actually had a beer with either of them? They are actually decent blokes and are very quick to buy you a beer back.

Appreantly so, but they were both pretty useless today..and today's game is what this thread is about. I have to say that I had never seen them both have so little influence on any game. Sturt had injuries today also. Feast, Coad, Evans, Sharples, Paynter...and they were quite rightly rested.

My point is there is every chance reasons why they had little effect on todays game. Point taken about what the thread is for, i get annoyed at people who take potshots at those who have given their club everything. My apologies.

Sturt are a class act, Dogs where good but didnt have enough of the ball, havent beaten a team above them all year...the gap widens IMO....

Heard BP's summary on LIFEFM, hard to believe their were 2 sides out there from the review, thought I was listening to CDFCFM...

Look i totaly agree with you demoneye but the way i play football is very different to the Gowans and i believe the way they play is a blight on the game at stages. I agree that they have been great servants of your club and are very good players in there own right but when the time has come it has come and i think the fat lady is signing on there careers.

It also raises the question of "why play injured/unfit players?" especially in a big game like today. When the Gowans are down they are undiciplined and no use to the CDFC who are a strong and proud club. Time to move out of the Gowans era and in to the new one.

I would be interested to hear Big Phill's comments about the games and the Gowans.
