This is the most sensible thing to do. Just look at the Premiership table as it stands and two clubs have benefited from the only 2 games Ovingham have played and the first one they only fielded 14 players and failed to score 32.21 - 0.0 if I am correct.

Time to admit that it is over!!!!

i also forgot to say that they can do that until round 9, at least then everyone has had the forfeit win.

Thats the best way to do it
everyone gets the forfeit first time round then a bye second time round
thats the way amatuer league has done it in under 18 comp since havens pulled there side out

Maybe throw North Pines in that mix and play at Kilburn.
Colours of black/white/red & royal stripes and called the Northern Wanderers, has a nice ring to it!

Club motto/song could be "I've been everywhere, man!" by Lucky Starr & they could have as their mascot a

Cat with a halo belting a chick to death after being bitten by a Redback spider..

this would potentially help struggling clubs like Ovingham, yet curb affluent clubs like Adelaide Uni..
This may also allow the league to structure-

C1- C grade
right down through to Div 7/C7.

What do people think of the concept- would work better than a salary cap.

this is a great idear it would streagthen the whole leauge, and it would produce better football in lower divs, as well as saving the smaller clubs

Would all clubs be able to afford putting in extra sides and will they be able to find the coaching and support staff? History suggests that if you make things harder for people they simply will not bother, so ifthey are not getting a game of C grade at 1 club i'd bet my house on it the majority will not play at all. Not everyone is as passionate about their football like all of us. After all we are the most passionate supporters of SA footy as the slogan of the site suggests. Seems like a good idea at first, will not work but imo.

If this means what I think it's meant to mean it is a poor idea. Smaller clubs are small for one simple reason, lack of people getting off of their arses to help out behind the scenes, why should they be getting looked after.
I'll use Modbury for example, div 5 early in the millenium, they sourced a good chorum of people to make thier club attractive to potential sponsors and players, now they've tasted division 1, have 4 senior sides running around the park each Saturday, this was achieved from hard working supporters.

Thanks LM, its something at Modbury we are very proud of. Alot went into the club getting up the grades. Major support from the Sports and Community Club and some sponsorship were a key enabler, but one major thing is a junior system that functioned well and encouraged the kids to move into seniors. There maybe 5 A graders atm that didnt play junior footy at the club. This link between Junior & Senior ranks is even stronger now with a number of Senior players coaching junior teams which they have no kids or relations playing in.

Having people work behind the scenes is very important and many people may not know that MFC only had approx 4 people doing all the work for the club behind the scenes during the above mentioned period. The Jolly family were instrumental in got the club to were it is basically alone with a few helpers along the way. Help is very hard to find. Now MFC has a committee of 18 of which i am involved in and Stuey and Matt are taking a back seat helping as required taking a well earned break.

Smaller Clubs like Ovingham etc with no juniors are always going to find it hard to remain stable due to a number of things which are out of there control such as econimic climate, cultural/Age demographic of surrounding area. ST Pauls is a good example of how a small club can survive IMO. Times are tough and tough amatuer football is becoming more proffessional on and off the field and with that importnat/tough/unpopular decisions must be made

I'd personally rather retire than be forced to swap clubs to somewhere I didn't want to play.

Certainly the Blacks would just have a multitude of clubs (eg Black, white etc) forming.

well our president received a call today that Ovingham have been folded by the SAAFL for the rest of season 2010.

apparently the decision was made due to the fact that we had forfeited too many games, which is understandable.

granted the first 4 weeks were forfeited due to lack of numbers however we then built up to have 25 against Payenham and only forfeited on Saturday due to a few injuries and a group of players that ate out and picked up a stomache bug... definately not due to players 'walking out on the club... cos that's what normally happens to Ovingham' which is the quote i heard about...

NG, you, Dave & others who helped deserve to congratulated on what you did to try to save the club from the dreaded closure, it was always going to be a big task, well done.
This should also serve as a strong warning to clubs of similar status, be very wary of the "quick fix" with an influx of itinerant personnel because as we see from this, it's only temporary. They leave even quicker than they come and this can be the result.

You are welcome at Gepps Cross if you want to carry on your footy this season.
