I'll back Hondo in for this one, his 'points for' is the highest in the bottom eight.

Do you two have the same side? The comparison is uncanny. Both teams scoring well but without a win between you. Too bad you can't play each other eh?

There's a few black cats and broken mirrors between the two of us.

We both have Goodes and he has been one of the prime causes of my slow start. Averaging 80 after I spent $600K on him. My other problem has been Clark who I still have. Poor scores and now his 3rd absence means once again I have to start Jackson Trengove. Not having Malceski and Chapman has also hurt me.

Don't know what the rest of Quichey's side looks like. I think we will both make strong runs home!

The Browns has a nice midfield but he doesn't have (c) Ablett so lets hope he rips Brisbane apart for me.

High risk Rookie Mids strategy combined with underperforming premiums such as Goodes has killed us. I echo your sentiments regarding Eski & Chappy.

I too will have to start Jackson Trengove again because of Mitch Clark (who has been a complete disaster pick so far). The problem is, Trengove is named on the extended bench and given they are playing Carlton who has a small forward line, I think he will be left out of the side and we end up carrying a donut into this round.

Oh, didn't think about that with Trengove :(

I haven't traded yet so, if Trengove is out, maybe I'll go Clark-Cox rather than the other small upgrade I had planned.

Good reminder not to hit the trade button yet!

I actually don't think my rookie mids strategy has been my problem. It's really been Tippett early, then Goodes/Clark/Goodwin all averaging well down on their starting price which means I have been behind the 8 ball to those teams whose premiums have all hit their averages.

Clark and Goodes mainly have really stuffed me up. $1.1m investment and they average 80 and 64 which is equivalent to about an $800K investment. I could have taken their averages but put that $300K to use somewhere else.

I've actually considered trading in Tippet for Warnock, won't cost me much and will save a donut this week (if Trengove is out), but just seems like a big waste of a trade.

Yeah I reckon only trade for bench cover if the premium you are covering is one of your locked in elites. I don't see Clark as that I'd rather just trade him out if I wanted to avoid the donut. Who knows if he will even be back next week? Trengove I hoped would give me breathing space to see if I could save the trade. I reckon Cox will get back to his old scoring ways from here on.

wycbloods 2,161 def 1,984 LKIF
PicklesPA 1,767 def by 2,194 CoverKing's Army

The Dark Knights have slain the Dragon as they defeated Captain Who in an upset in Round 5 of Hogg Division I. The Darks' impressive victory has vaulted them into Hogg Premier calculations for 2011 as they stride into the top four. Groover's stumble opened the door for CoverKing who smashed bottom ranked PicklesPA in a 400 point percentage booster. It takes a loud noise to blot out the sound of CK bragging but clearly the loudest noise coming from Division I this week was the MASSIVE sigh of relief from the 2009 Hogg Division II premier Hondo as he finally opened his account on the weekend. Maybe now he can stop pacing up and down the halls like an expectant father.

Leisa's Lovelies showed that she is not out of place in this divison with a score of over 2300 as she upset Mosquitoes who , like darcy in Hogg Premier, lead the rankings but are outside the top eight in their league. Woody was his normal point scoring self but it's clear that after three seasons of mediocrity that Blue Boy has figured out how to play this game and won't be an easybeat for the rest of the year. Perhaps a coach who has improved even more is Dutchy who kept his season alive with a top victory over the reigning Division III premier Matty's Knights.

The Dark Knights have been more than a little fortunate so far... Long may it continue! Early wins are so important. Especially so in this league, I feel I'm gonna need them. As a former defender myself, it's good to see the side I coach appreciating the value of limiting the opposition's score! :) Touch wood... Things are definitely better in SC land than DT equivalent.

Division I Round 6

Leisa's Lovelies vs The Browns
Supre Cil Dluohs vs The Dark Knights
Captain Who? vs cobras
Hondominators YSCC vs Mosquitoes
Blue Boy vs CoverKing's Army
Matty's Knights vs LKIF
wycbloods vs Dutchys Dodos
PicklesPA vs Woodys Dropkick

There appear to be a lot of lopsided matches in Division I this week with the match of the round being the clash between The Dark Knights and Supre Cil Dluohs with the winner going to 5-1 with one foot inside the top four. I reckon that Captain Who will be back on top of the ladder at the end of this round as the Captain will smash the cobras with CoverKing's Army having a much tougher assignment against a resurgent Blue Boy. Leisa's Lovelies has the chance to go two matches clear when they take on the Browns and there would be more than a few bottom eight teams hoping that the Browns can salute and leave the door to the top eight open.

Dutchy's Dodos are a much improved combination this season but will find things tough against wycbloods as the Dodos continue to struggle to put wins together. The Mozzies and Hondo have been underperforming in terms of winning matches when you look at how many points they both score so the loser of this game will be banging their head against the wall, particularly if it is a high scoring contest. Perhaps the Mozzies have already given it their best sting and it is time for Hondo to get on a roll.

Well played... a close win - with S Hurn getting you over the line the last 5-6 minutes.. :( :(

Made the mistake of not making G Ablett my captain this week....
A Sandilands scores his lowest score of the year against no ruckman
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

ROUND 6

Results
Leisa's Lovelies 1,908 def by 1,910 The Browns
Supre Cil Dluohs 2,021 def by 2,032 The Dark Knights
Captain Who? 2,203 def 2,032 cobras
Hondominators YSCC 2,104 def 1,999 Mosquitoes
Blue Boy 1,908 def by 2,133 CoverKing's Army
Matty's Knights 1,788 def by 1,951 LKIF
wycbloods 1,896 def by 2,048 Dutchys Dodos
PicklesPA 1,489 def by 2,156 Woodys Dropkick

The door to the top eight opened wide in Hogg Division I as Browny did the business against eighth ranked Leisa's Lovelies by a mere two points. This result is good news for Hondominators who racked up a second successive win and Dutchy's Dodos who upset wycbloods to square the ledger at 3-3. LKIF defeated Matty's Knights in another upset to make this league a very competitive one with up to fourteeen sides still a chance of finals action with the Grand Finalists of course being promoted to Hogg Premier next season.

At the top end of the ladder Woodys Dropkick predictably flogged Pickles but Captain Who didn't get the expected percentage boost against the cobras (See my divvy IV write up for the reason why GRR) and CoverKing got the job done as expected against Blue Boy. The match of the round was an absolute beauty with The Dark Knights recording another excellent victory to prevent SCD from stealing his top four spot.

ROUND 7

Results
Leisa's Lovelies 2,182 def by 2,354 The Dark Knights
Supre Cil Dluohs 2,038 def 1,990 The Browns
Captain Who? 2,031 def by 2,036 Mosquitoes
Hondominators YSCC 2,179 def 1,992 cobras

wycbloods 2,249 def by 2,345 Woodys Dropkick
PicklesPA 1,269 def by 2,204 Dutchys Dodos

Woody, CoverKing and the Dark Knights all emerged as the frontrunners for the Division I title after Captain Who slipped up against Mosquitoes who were overdue for a big victory. And don't look now but here comes Hondo! After losing the first four matches of the year Hondo looked to be heading towards the relegation zone but instead he sits outside the top eight on percentage only after winning his third straight match. The Supres picked up another key victory to keep the pressure on the top four and he looks set to make the top eight.

Another team who has done well this year is Dutchys Dodos who are the most improved team in all of the seven Hogg Divisions. Last year his team was called Dutchys Donuts as he had to wait a long time to record his first Hogg victory. Now the Dodos are sitting pretty in the top eight and scoring well. It is fair to say that the Dutchman appears to have gotten the hang of this game.

Division I Round 8
Leisa's Lovelies vs Blue Boy
Supre Cil Dluohs vs Matty's Knights
Captain Who? vs wycbloods
Hondominators YSCC vs PicklesPA
cobras vs Dutchys Dodos
Mosquitoes vs Woodys Dropkick
The Browns vs CoverKing's Army
The Dark Knights vs LKIF

wycbloods gets a chance to step back into top four calculations if he can defeat Captain Who in the Division I match of the round. Captain Who is not the side you would want to play when you have a donut in your forwardline and Buddy's suspension couldn't have come at a worse time for bloods as a loss here will most likely consign him to a 5-8 finish and two games behind the Captain. Yep, my money's on the skipper unless bloods eats that donut! Woody hasn't been getting the writeups he probably deserves in these threads but in my mind he's the current premiership favourite and the major obstacle to CoverKing and Dark Knights for the Division I title. This week the Dropkicks face a deceptively tough game against the Mozzies who make a lot of noise but don't sting too hard. Mozzies has the ability to shock Woody and that would certainly be a blessing for CoverKing and Dark Knight who should both salute this weekend.

Another interesting set of fixtures is the timing of the Supres vs. Matty's Knights match. With the Knights clinging to the eight a Supres victory could well put Hondo of all teams back into the top eight. Hondo is back in town and there is no way known that he will drop the match against Pickles who is holding Division I down like an anchor this season. It's amazing to think that Hondo can catch bloods this week on the premiership table when you consider their respective starts. In the other match the improved one (that's Dutchy btw) should account for cobras and consolidate his top eight spot and Leisa's Lovelies should win to keep Blue Boy in the relegation zone for another week.

Which is good as I play him next week in the AFL Online league and I'm at the wrong end of the table.

ROUND 8

Results

The Browns 2,123 def by 2,465 CoverKing's Army
The Dark Knights 2,114 def by 2,172 LKIF

There was massive scoring in Division I this week 6 coaches out of 16 scoring over 2300 points. As a Hogg Premier coach all I can say is thank Ablett only two of them will be joining us next year. Woody was top of the class as usual with his 2528, giving the Mozzies a belting by nearly 300 which is a bit rude when you score over 2200. Top side CoverKing and a resurgent Hondo topped 2400 with Hondo getting the biggest percentage boost of all time winning by a massive 1203 points!

The Dark Knights got upset by LKIF in what could turn out to be a costly loss and wycbloods continues to slip down the pecking order after being outclassed by Dr Who. Matty's Knights picked up his best score for a while but it wasn't good enough and Leisa's Lovelies got back in the game with a win despite not scoring as many points as some of the beaten teams this round. Division I on fire with more than a few hard luck stories going around this week!
