Chris Martin, the New Zealand pace bowler, has been cleared to play for Essex following a delay in the processing of his visa, and will link up with the squad ahead of their CB40 fixture against Middlesex at Lord's on May 2.

Martin, 35, was given permission by New Zealand Cricket to sign as short-term cover for Danish Kaneria, who was unavailable for the start of the season due to domestic cricket commitments in Pakistan.

Shoaib Malik, the former Pakistan captain who is currently serving a one-year ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is set to join Lancashire for their Friends Provident Twenty20 campaign that begins in the first week of June. His participation has been supported by the PCB, who gave the No Objection Certificate (NOC) but is subject to visa regulations.

Younis Khan, the former Pakistan captain, has been signed up by Surrey for the ongoing domestic season in England. Younis will represent Surrey in all competitions until mid July and becomes their second overseas player after Andrew Symonds. He is currently serving an indefinite ban imposed on him by the PCB for disciplinary reasons, and his appeal against that decision was recently postponed to the end of this month.

Scott Styris, the New Zealand allrounder, will turn out for Essex in the upcoming Friends Provident Twenty20 tournament. Styris was signed after the county's deal with Yusuf Pathan fell through due to the BCCI's decision to revoke the 'No Objection Certificate' which had been obtained to secure Pathan's participation.
