I personally wouldn't have described Nick Holland as "ordinary".

Probably a bit harsh on Nick Holland .. He wasn't a typical "stand and deliver" type of CHF in his early years, but he played some reasonable footy for the Hawks.

Freo have probably had a few footballers fall into the category you mentioned, same with Melbourne and Richmond I'd say.

Jayson Daniels 173 games. Just a horrible kicker who probably survived on defensive skills
Steven Baker 174 games. Annoying tagger who has no game

Just 2 that come to mind....
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Ask Chris Judd if Robert Shirley was an ordinary player.

he probably is a good tagger but still an ordinary player, it frustrates me how blokes can make a career and a good pay packet when they have no ability and just follow someone around all day only my oppinion though

Every team needs one. Yep, I'm biased, but you could hardly rate Baker's career as "terrible".

He's the one I was trying to think of ... Certainly wouldn't say he's crap, but he's fallen well short of the expectation I think most people had of him.

Funnily enough I reckon Peter Caven would have been headed for this topic if he hadn't bumped into Malcolm Blight, thought he was just garbage when he landed at Adelaide and then within the space of a couple of years he was a completely different player.

Ricky Olarenshaw is another that I always thought was overrated, probably because he moved well.

You guys have mentioned Baker and Shirley, but they've shown an ability that not too many possess.

There were a few players in that 2000 Essendon premiership that lived off that success for a while - Heffernan, Blumfield, Moorcroft, Caracella.

Think we are seeing the same thing happen to a few of the 2008 hawks.

I didn't. The topic was 'terrible footballers' of which I believe he is. He has made a great career for himself but as a footballer I hardly rate him. Has a dip though and takes on people twice his size I'll grant him that. But as a footballer he is average.

Tagging is a part of football...so id say anyone that can tag at an AFL level, deserves to be recognised as a footballer...
