Cloke was injured (not sure what injury). A very disapointing effort by Port again.

I honestly thought Port would win this game but then i heard Walker was playing & that first thought went out the door.
God knows what the margin would of been if he didn't go down back.
Walkers a forward, i wonder wheather Bassett was keeping him from dominating so he has him for few more weeks?
Maybe the smartest move he's made as a coach so far!

Even with Taylor Walker I went to the Parade feeling very optimistic. That rapidly evaporated upon discovering the absence of Cloke.

I'm a fan of Tony Bamfords game plan, which takes advantage of Port's ability to move the ball quickly. But you still need a target.

I'll stand corrected but surely that was the best Norwood lineup. We were far from it.

and what happens ?
This might be wayyyyy off the mark
BUT
Did Neil Craig before or during the game instruct Bassett to play Walker up the ground
Walker played on the half back line in that last qtr until about the time on period

Is this mindset of playing Walker up the ground on the AFL amd a lIttle in the SANFL stuffing him up ?

FFS Walker is a goalkicker not a midfielder defender or what ever

Congrats to the CD mob for thier pre game stuff, thumbs down for my mob tonight

Only one person thinks Taylor Walker can play away from full forward - Neil Craig. Taylor Walker thrives at full forward so why would you play him elsewhere then drop him because he struggles out of position.

I think Centrals pre-game stuff was arranged by the SANFL. Only thing Centrals may have contributed was the extra PA system for the ceremony.

Until he learns some extra defensive and and disposal skills, Taylor Walker is going to be about as reliable as a full forward as Scott Welsh was at the Crows.
That is he is going to get a few bags when the ball is delivered quickly and the opposing defence underestimates him, and is going to barely get a kick at other times when kept under pressure...

The same thing happened at Elizabeth Oval last year. Walker had about 5 goals to half time and Norwood led by about 6-7 goals. Then he gets shifted to the backline and we ended up losing the game. Different Norwood coaches for the two games, so that makes me wonder whether there ARE some "extra" coaching instructions.

Said the same at the oval
Then thought surely not

I might be oversensative but it really does smirk of an AC directive to give Walker time on defence

Psyber might end up spot on with Walkers career
But is still young and can improve on his AFL form

When the Crows are mathematically out of finals contention in 2010 then Craig should say to WALKER
''Son your playing deep forward for the next 6 weeks.""
"We wont drop u on 1-2 disMAL games"
"" Son just kick goals , dont worry about being a robot taking instructions "
Which would be better than playing him centre half back or even rucking ..

Unfortunately Kate wasn't speaking close enough to the microphone at the time - I was standing on the ground about 15 metres away from Kate and couldn't even hear her voice! The ground announcer couldn't hear her speaking through the microphone so he then started announcing the special guests for the Anzac Day component of proceedings (as distinct from the opening ceremony for the new lights element of pre-match proceedings). Kate only turned up at the very last minute throwing proceedings out a bit as she wasn't expecting to be able to attend, and left as soon as she had finished cutting the ribbon.

So whilst it was a bit of a shemozzle, it was unintended and complicated by Kate's last minute showing up at the ground and being hastily incorporated into the proceedings.

if this does happen (i've seen chocko talk to players at the 1/4 & 3/4 time huddles), i think all 9 coaches should take ideas & opinions from the coaches of their afl players, but be left to do what's best for their own team or form a pact with the 8 other counterparts & play them in the 2's or even better in the vfl
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Crowds:

Norwood v Port 6611

Central v Sturt 4884

Both crowds disappointing but its obvious which teams should compete in the ANZAC day game each year.

And Sturt v Central would have been a bigger crowd had it been able to be played at Adelaide Oval. Probably = to or > than Port v Norwood.

Norwood v Port wasnt at AO either, and wasnt the official ANZAC day game.

Even Sturt v glenelg, as jokingly suggested by bayman, would make more sense than the current arrangement.

Aren't we forgetting something? A rematch of last year's grand final gets a smaller crowd than the battle for the wooden spoon. If Norwood and Port were last year's grand finalists, you wouldn't have been able to move at Norwood last night.

I'm guessing one of the reasons there was such a big crowd, was the fact both teams supporters aren't going to get too many chances to see their team win this season.

I was really hoping Port Adelaide would win... would much rather see Norwood come last this season.

Just surprised it was so comprehensive, expected it to be close.

Was Port crap? Was Norwood just sensational on the night?

Or was it just one of those games where one side just slowly moved away from the other?

I'd answer your question, but after an ignorant statement like you hope Port would win so Norwood could finish bottom, you can stuff yourself. And there I was so pleased Sturt finally did well against Central ... last time I'll ever do that.

It wasn't an ignorant statement. After years of Norwood belting my side as a youngster, I'm emotionally scarred and therefore must carry my angst to my grave! So in many ways, its a compliment! :-)

At this stage of the development phase, Port Adelaide needs the experienced players on the park to give our talented kids some direction. Put Clayton (rubbish suspension), Lokan, Cloke, Meiklejohn and Lees out there last night and I have no doubt the result would have been much closer.

There was no doubting the spirit of both sides. Norwood simply put a better lineup on the park last night. And good luck to 'em.
