To anyone who hasn't been to a dawn service start this year and you will never miss one again.

Especially Brighton as the diggers come down Jetty Rd in the dark toward the beach and silence apart from people clapping.

Last Post doesn't get any better than that.

Then off to the RSL for some frothies.

I'll be at the dawn service this year, but no frothies for me unfortunately!
Gotta play footy.
Maybe just some 2-up instead.

Yes it is, and in WW1 when the Anzac legend was created we went to war to fight for the "mother country", England

Australian involvement in World War I
Although the theatres of war were very distant from Australia, its membership of the British Empire ensured that there was strong (although not universal) public support for involvement in the war. In 1914, Australia's Prime Minister, Andrew Fisher, immediately promised Australian support for Britain 'to the last man and the last shilling'.

Wasn't that the same country that invaded this one?

I know, sickening and even more sickening the way they treated our Diggers, yet another reason we should move Australia Day to a more meaningful one, thanks for that Ian.

Its quite easy to understand and logical, they drag us into a war that doesn't even involve us and then give us the shitty jobs where we die on mass while they sit back and sip tea and eat scones. And we celebrate the day this mob invaded our country and your'e saying we should celebrate the day they invaded this country because they dragged us into that war and killed us? Real smart.
At least the Yanks were around when we had a war at our doorstep.

Only because the Japs attacked them first, until then they were happy to sit back, make munitions and rake in $$$ while the rest of the world tried it's best to destroy itself, don't get me wrong, I want them on our side but if we didn't have anything to offer them they wouldn't be here

Add the fact that Australia is one of many countries that has shown England how to play a sport it invented properly.

Indeed. My grandfather who served in the English army, walking alongside a tank and assisting to liberate concentration camps would disagree that the Australian Army got all the shitty jobs.

Can o' worms questions. Where would this country be if it were not 'invaded'? I don't know the answer, BTW.

Not a can of worms but we all have no idea.
IMHO it would be a better place but I wouldn't have been born so its a double edged sword!
Some on here might argue a place without me would be a better place! ;)

One thing is for sure, none of us would be here to have this conversation, like it or not that day is part of all of our heritage, if the Poms hadn't invaded, the Irish, Scotish and many other cultures wouldn't be here now either.
