Star Western Bulldogs midfielder Matthew Boyd sustained a broken hand late in his team's 22-point loss to the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on the weekend, it was revealed on Monday night.
Boyd, who won the Doggies' best-and-fairest and All-Australian honours last year, had the hand operated on late on Monday afternoon, according to the Herald Sun.
But the club is optimistic the 27-year-old will only miss Friday night's clash against winless Adelaide at Etihad Stadium.
While the Dogs haven't totally closed the door on the former rookie-listed onballer being available against the Crows, he will almost certainly sit it out and therefore his run of 107 consecutive matches - which stretches all the way back to the end of the 2005 season - will come to an end.
Since being taken at pick No.23 in the 2002 Rookie Draft, Boyd has played 144 matches and become one of the league's best and most-respected midfielders.

I get rid of Jack Riewoldt he gets 137.
I bring in J.Brown he gets 81 (not too bad but still)
I get rid of Hall (should've listened to REB) he polls two great weeks.
Bring in Ballantyne he gets 26.
Trade out Andrew Walker he then gets 120ish.
And Tippett and Kerr two massive spuds.
Already burnt 5 trades and struggling!!
Who should I bring in for Kerr????
And is anyone keeping Tippet?

In one week you may be able to get Vince for close to Kerr's price. How much cash have you got?
Riewoldt-Brown is fine but it sounds like you have an itchy finger on the trade trigger with the other moves. 5 trades down but have you done any upgrades other than Brown? After fixing Kerr you only have 14 trades so I think you've got to hold Tippett now. Just my opinion.

Hold him, trade one of your other non performing midfielders.
Look to Kane Lucas he is averaging 77.5 at the price of $124k and will get a price hike this week when he plays his 3rd game.
