Geez we are very scratchy at the moment. If it wasn't for the Hawks issues in Ruck we would have gotten done today.

Johnson: Looks bloody miles off it at the moment - still diving on the ground instead of winning the ball. Cost us a goal at a crucial time today.
Ablett: Still getting the ball but fumbling and getting caught a lot.
Kelly: A player that always seems to be going at half rat power so when he's not on song often gets the finger pointed at him. Just needs to be a bit more urgent at the contest when not in top form.
Mackie: Lacking a bit of awareness at the moment.
Wojinski: Not much left IMO. Needs to find more tricks or he'll be in the Magoos when Varcoe and Stokes returns.

Every game we win at this stage of the year is almost worth two because we are at present VERY vulnerable. I reckon we might be in trouble in the West next week.

I think they are. I haven't picked them to finish top 4 because I think they will ease their workload of the senior, more experienced players before finals and potentially drop some games they might not expect to. I think they might've been beaten today because of Hawthorn's 'extended' preseason, however injuries and Geelong's superior knowledge of how to get out of trouble when in crisis proved the factor between winning and losing today.

Went to the G today and have to say that Brad Ottens was the difference between the two sides, Renouf's overloaded workload notwithstanding. His vice like mark and goal at the end of the third quarter, coupled with a possibly even better one in the forward pocket in the last, were real "stand tall" efforts. I was sitting right behind the line of flight as Steve Johnson's snap (after that second mark) curled through - only thing he did all day, but a magic moment.

The Cats also seem to have found a player in Mitch Duncan - was impressed with him.

Would have loved to have been at that game. It was a cracker and yep, we've found another good un in Duncan.

It is now 2010. Last year is history. We might have been the best team over the past three seasons but during the early weeks of this season we are underdone and our high possession game plan needs a few matches before it starts to click properly.

We clearly missed Stokes and Varcoe in this match. In the first quarter our forward defensive pressure was way down and the Hawks waltzed out of the backline, although we did tighten up in this area as the game went on. We miss Maxy Rooke and the steadiness of Milburn down back as well. Motlop was brought in to cover the Stokes/Varcoe role and he was unlucky to get crunched by a flying Hawkins. If you want to beat Geelong, now is the time to do it. I reckon we'll start to click in about round 7.

Very true. Hawkins would stuggle to get a kick in a few teams with lesser mid-fields.

Good old Pods. We struck the jackpot. With Moons on the way out we needed a strong body to partner up with Hawkins for the next couple of years. You couldn't do that with the draft and our salary cap is tight so what a master stroke by Wells, Balme et al. Bring in your boring as batshit defensive zone, we'll just kick it over your heads because what team has three quality talls to play on Hawkins, Moons and THE POD. The way they worked together was brilliant last week. Pods already knows that if the ball is not coming his way to lead out of the forward 50 for Mooney and Hawkins to snaffle up. Loving the three talls strategy. With Otto and Blake in as well all of a sudden we are one large side.

So far this season we've had Steve Johnson totally out of form until this week. Milburn, Rooke and Scarlett have all missed a lot of footy so far this year. Meanwhile Mackie and Wojo have been horrible so expect some improvement from them with guys like Stokes and Varcoe also looking to get back into the side. We've blooded another young Ruck who we got to take on Sandilands no less and even managed to find another promising midfielder in Mitch Duncan. Add the return of Josh Hunt to the backline and with Harry Taylor and Tom Lonergan in career best form and all of a sudden we are starting to look very good again.

And we can get better. Loving all of the 'Geelong on the slide' comments this year and loving the fact that everyone has been talking up St Kilda, Brisbane and the Bulldogs all year long. How do you win two flags in three years and still manage to fly under the radar?

but Ben Cousins got a year by the AFL for substance abuse that was never proven, tested positively or convicted for??

Well Cousins wasn't even CHARGED with anything! Spot on white line ( ) confusing indeed.

Hopefully the AFL take a stance against Stokes too.
