How long was Luders out for? Where were West on the ladder at this stage to end up playing in the Elim Final? Where West a serious premiership threat and what sort of effect did the Luders injury have on West's chances?

A positive one, so it seems. West coming into the match were 7-9 (6th); playing 1st placed North 13-3. West went on to win five more in a row, and another two to reach the preliminary (8 wins in a row starting with this game).

Was that the last year of Kerley's coaching during that stint?
Kevin Morris coached the following year, is that right?

They then suffered a pretty fair slump including a couple of hidings like the one above (and at the Parade late in the year) but bounced back in the Prelim.
Lol thats my memory of their season anyway, think it's pretty close to the mark.

North were favourites in the 1985 preliminary final. They had just been nutted by Glenelg in the second semi final and were starting to find some form after having a mid season slump, mainly caused by a spate of injuries. North won their first 11 matches, lost one, won the next two and then lost their next five matches.
