Key Position Players

Schell without a doubt for me. Done it for a long time, and very well, forward and back. Fergy, White and Alleway would be the next best 3 for me in no particular order.

I certainly don't rate Gill in same league as these guys. Doesn't have good games often enough for mine.

From what i understand the Eagles spoke to the power in December and asked about using Salter as a key back and were told no we want him forward so that is what the Eagles planned for now they are always asking for him to play back.

They must be difficuly to deal with the power with their listed players in the SANFL.

While I think he is a very good player and wouldn't mind him in the red and black, there would be a few forwards I'd pick before Salter thats for sure.

I agree Salter is one of the best in the comp when he is at his best and switched on...

I reckon he is one of those players caught between being a great SANFL player and an average AFL player...

Although he has limited opportunity in his AFL career to date, I'm suprised he hasn't had more opportunity with the Power but then when he does get a chance, he struggles to impose himself at the next level...

Port do have an okay forward line which has paerhaps attributed to his lack of opportunity, hence te reason the Power tried him as a defender in the pre-season but it does make me wonder how well Salter would go in a Richmond, Melbourne or lower placed teams jumper as a key forward ?

I agree about his "day on" as he showed last year at Woodville against North however I couldn't see him holding down a CHF or CHB spot over a whole season against the bigger opponents who match up in those spots. He is a damn good FF / FP because he has the mid size strength and the athletic ability when the ball is on the ground.

Alleway is obviously a very good player, but how did you see his form last year? It seemed to me to be down a notch on what he's capable of and I thought he looked as if he was carrying an injury.

How do you rate Damon White against him? He seemed to be your 'go-to' man to fill CHF if Alleway was being held, as well as being a very good CHB?

Both players carried injuries most of the year. White played at CHB for about 5 mins last year because of injury. White is a better CHB, and is the position he should play every week. Alleway is a better CHF.

Alleway had half a "pre-season" prior to start of 2009 as he was overseas for most of it so he struggled with match fitness and a "groin" issue early on then did his shoulder half way through the year, missed 2 or 3 games and then in desperation we brought him back and he played having jabs pre match and at half time for the reaminder of the season and clearly wasn't anywhere near fit. However a half fit Alleway was better value than some who lined up in R&W last year. He did have off season shoulder surgery along with White who had a hip operation after carying that complaint through 2009 and Ackland with a knee cleanout - again played most of the season with that complaint.

Alleway is getting somewhere near 100 percent fitness as witnessed over the past 2 games re his ability to play both ruck and up forward all game. He has spent minimal time on the becnh even allowing for his increased workload. It will be very handy to get Ackland back and playing ASAP so we can keep Alleway in the fwd line!

Hopefully we can keep all our key players on field and fit throughout 2010 but I guess every supporter hopes that will happen at their club also. It is in the lap of the gods!
