Sourav Ganguly, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, has been fined $40,000 by the IPL, for failing to finish bowling their overs in time in the match against Delhi Daredevils.

At the end of the match, Kolkata were assessed to be two overs behind the required rate after allowances were taken into consideration. Since it was their second offence of the season, Ganguly's team-mates also bore the brunt - each of them were poorer by $10,000.

Right through the tournament, the IPL has come down hard on captains for shoddy over-rates. After the first three games of the 2010 season, four captains - Kumar Sangakkara, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir and Ganguly - were fined $20,000 each because their teams were not able to complete their overs on time.

Punjab went on to repeat the offence twice, leading to a one-match ban on Sangakkara - a fate that could befall Ganguly if Kolkata slip up again.

At least they get paid well

The ICC has ruled out creating a separate window in the FTP for lucrative domestic leagues like the IPL, despite increasing calls for the game's governing body to figure out a way to allow players to participate without disrupting their international commitments.

"We don't envisage a separate window for a domestic event like the IPL," Haroon Lorgat, the ICC's CEO, said in New Delhi at the unveiling of the ICC World Twenty20 trophy. "We cannot incorporate all domestic events into the FTP. It is just not possible as there would be implications for all other member boards."

This sort of thing just gives you all that confidence about sub-continent cricket

The controversy over the IPL Kochi franchise has become more murky with the franchise CEO alleging that Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, offered them $50 million to "quit the game and get out" soon after their successful bid for it. Modi has denied the charge and said he could not have offered the money because he was not a bidder in the first place.

The allegation was made on several Indian television channels by Satyajit Gaekwad, CEO of Rendezvous Sports World, the owners of the Kochi franchise. "One week after the bid was declared in favour of the Kochi team, the investor from Rendezvous Shailendra [Gaekwad] was called by Mr Modi and told that you would be given $50 million if you just quit the game and get out," Gaekwad told CNN-IBN.

Wasim Akram, the former Pakistan fast bowler and current bowling coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, has said players in the IPL have been actively tampering with the ball, making it difficult for batsmen to sight it in the later stages of the innings. Akram said he has spotted bowlers rubbing red soil on the ball in places like Mumbai, Rajasthan and Ahmedabad once the floodlights take effect, thereby reducing its visibility when the batsmen are looking to accelerate.
