I heard he was told the news on Friday. Very poor from SACA if it is indeed the case.

he can still be selected if form merits it, but i think he will look to another state, and Queensland are the favourates with his good mate Rhino there

I'd be more inclined to find someone that can score more runs than Cossy, if they can't, big mistake IMHO

Bottom of the shield, bottom of the ODD and yeh, ok we did ok on the back of imports for the T20 but Cossie's weight has been an issue and one could read into it, his dedication. Having a guy like that in the team undermines the coaches efforts in setting the right standards. Also, because he's been seen to be getting away with his weight issues for a long time, it doesn't bode well for others in the side who may consider him getting off lightly, thereby causing disharmony in the side.

Not only will this give Cossie a shake up, it will more importantly give the team a pretty quick shot across the bow to all and sundry in the side.

Well done SACA, finally someone has taken the tough stance.

Who to replace him with.....who cares. Blood some young bloke who wants to be there and do the right things. Lets face it, there's only one way to go from here.

Well said gadj1976. This is the best thing for both sides. Cosgrove is a professional cricketer and sadly the form he presents himself in is anything but professional. A few times watching the Redbacks this season on TV I almost felt sorry for the guy because of how overweight he now is. He obviously has problems controlling his diet but clearly giving him a contract every year in the hope that eventually the light would go on wasn't working.

If he gets picked up by another state (unlikely I would've thought) hopefully things work out for him but if he stays here and has to fight to get back in the side through grade cricket (and hopefully starting to show some professionalism) then it could be the best thing for everyone.

Run MAXchine Klinger , leading rungetter Franger Cup 2008-2009, dropped first game 2009-10
Peter George 0/16 [10 overs] Franger Cup, one of the all time great economy rates for a SA bowler in agame, dropped next game
Mark Cosgrove makes 105[115] on his last SS innings, sacked

If we are going to rightfooly or wrongfooly castigate Cosi, then we should also look at the men running the show

Mal, Cossy has been on borrowed time for a couple of years. That 105 of which you speak followed three quacks.

Quite simply, the SACA has run out of patience with him. You have to be a very special player before you even think about playing by your own rules, Cossy's good, but he ain't THAT good.

Not disagreeing that the SACA MAY have had enough of Cosi
My post is saying, if the peple running the show are not setting an example, then expect a player/players to do the same ?

Mat Inns NO Runs Runs HS Avg BF SR 100 50 4s 6s Ct St
ODIs 3 3 0 112 74 37.33 116 96.55 0 1 12 2 0 0
First-class 75 134 9 5262 233 42.09 8328 63.18 14 33 52 0
List A 86 85 4 2781 121 34.33 3155 88.14 3 20 24 0
Twenty20 25 24 2 458 52 20.81 412 111.16 0 2 38 10 6 0

No surprise, the above stats are Cossie's.

Discount the ODI stuff, because it's only three games, and the soda debut inflates the stat.

And I seem to remember some impressive showings for Glamorgan, which again, vaunt the stats.

Point is, and I don't have the actual figures, that in First Class Cricket for SA, his average is a more domestic 36-37. Now that probably heads SA over the past few four or five years (barring Boof), so it still seems a strange call.

When Boof retired, everyone assumed "Baby Boof" would take over the mantle, and be our next great thing, and saviour for the next ten years. In SA, that's like saying Mitch Marsh is the next Keith Miller, or Steven Finn the next Harold Larwood.

On one hand, I think he's done well given the pressure (some of which is brought on himself), but I think he would have blossomed further in a better side, and with Dan Harris, James Smith, Michael Klinger, and Callum Ferguson filling the top four (in the perfect world), there would have been significantly less pressure on him.

Added to the fact that Dan Christian is certainly capable of batting at 6 (if not higher), and Aaron O'Brien or Manou fighting it out 7 and 8, he could have formed part of a relatively formidable batting line-up.

Ideally, with Cosgrove, the attack would have been along the lines of George, Haberfield, Putland/Richardson. That would have been okay with a strong top seven or eight batters, but the reshuffle without Cossie means that the batting is significantly weakened and a bowler who isn't really performing at a solid first class level will probably play, because he shores up the batting to an extent:

Cullen Bailey.

That makes the 9, 10, 11 as Bailey, Haberfield, George. Excluding George (if he continues his rapid progress) the attack seems rather threadbare, with "alright-on-their-day" bowlers, but the variation of Christian and O'Brien makes it up to an extent.

Might seem like a lot of rambling, but in short, there is only one way SA can go from this (never thought I could say it), and that is down.

sounds good in theory MP but it don't happen. Dan Christian is not up to batting top 6. Very over rated cricketer.

how is christian over rated. best fielder in the team. explosive batter who constantly performs in the roles he is given and is more then capable with the ball in hand in all versions of the game.

On cossie it is sad to see it come to this but what else can you do.
