Locky posted Norths less than a week ago, it's now 1849.

And people should stop asking for Centrals numbers, for some reason they just never release them.

Why might they make that choice smac? I think South has a similar approach too.

Possibly the same reason there was "only" 5000+ attending the recent Central/ Port game.

No idea, but I guess I don't question the club as they seem to do most things right!

You've completely missed my point. There was certainly many more than 5000 at the Ponderosa that night. Anecdotally I've heard about clubs underestimating attendances to reduce payments to the SANFL.

As for your paranoid crack about continual GF appearances. With impending recruiting restrictions and the below par performance of your juniors (100 point flogging), good luck finding players.

Really do you think that would happen? good on the clubs if they are doing that i say.

As for the juniors, if your blokes are that miles ahead of our juniors you probably won't have them for very long, they will be playing AFL, junior results mean stuff all, it's the mid range players who go on to play 100 sanfl and no afl games are the ones you want.

As Kris Grant has said many a times the CDFC produces players to play for the CDFC not the AFL.

I never said it was a bad thing.

We beat your Reserves (mid range players) pretty easily as well last outing.

The future of our club will be built on the talent (U-18s etc) moving through our system. And yes we'll lose a few to the AFL, but that's what the Port Adelaide player development system has always aspired to do.

Just as well the future of your club is based on talent.....certainly isn't based on sound business practices.....be interesting too see how many of those members turn up tomorrow

How do you do that? Not pick the best players in your zones? Not develop your players fully?

There two totally different styles of football, CDFC has a game plan that is played all the way through the club from the league to the 16's. They are developed to play into that system.

If they pin-point a player as a possible league football full back that is where he is developed to play. Not in multiple positions as most AFL recruits expect these days.

Best player gets dropped to the Reserves?

Or perhaps they make them all smoke to stunt their growth?

We pick players that We know will complement Our side & style of play but We also know that they aren't going to be good enough to go on to play AFL. Sort of like what they did with Dolly the sheep lol!

Well when a player gets drafted to the AFL apart from the financial gain which is stuff all really, it's isn't really helping to strengthen our side is it.

How has the likes of Cooney, Waters and co getting drafted helped the WAFC league football side.

Back to the subject.

One issue with membership numbers is that they are calculated differently by different clubs.

As an example Eagles had approx 900 junior members signed up under its auskick parternship not included in the 2009 figures which were approx 2100.
whilst according to the September 2009 Panther News South included its 700 kids under this program in their figures which were approx 1800.

BTW in 2010, that Eagles partnership has now been further extended accross metro clubs, schools and country teams in the zone which should see at least 2,500 junior (under 18) members in the club this year. Convert a reasonable percentage of these into loyal fans and it can be the foundation of a supporter base for years to come
