This was footy played at a high standard, with great marks and strong bodies at the football all day. The Bays left no doubt they'll be around the mark again this year, with some outstanding performances from some players and a strong overall team effort. West looked a little down from their Round 1 game and showed they still have plenty of work to do, but also showed they're not too far away.

The four goal margin was a surprise, as Glenelg dominated the centre clearances, won the wings comfortably, had a key forward kicking 6, another forward kicking 5 and a solid defence. After an even first quarter and a bit, Glenelg kicked a spate of goals to, lead by 5 at half-time and extended that to 6 early in the 3rd. West suddenly produced some great football to kick 5 goals quickly, but the Bays steadied for a deserved win.

One talking point was what seemed an obvious behind to nearly everyone being awarded a goal to Glenelg. I didn't see it, anyone else?

Ryan Ferguson took a heavy knock in the first quarter, but it was the first time I've seen him beaten, as Ruory Kirkby was magnificent for Glenelg. He took some great marks and his kicking for goal was first-class. Alex Grima got under West's guard, while Ben Kane was dangerous and productive all day.

West made some very costly turnovers at vital times and their skills and ball-handling seemed well off compared to the week before, but they produced some excellent periods, although always under extreme pressure from Glenelg. Michael Pettigrew continued his return to form, kicking 4 goals from CHF and Nat Caruso was possibly West's only other standout.

Glenelg served notice they'll be back again at finals time if they continue that form, while West will be disappointed. They've certainly improved a lot, but there's more work to do.

Good to catch up with one or two Snouts again and to have an interesting chat with amBays.

One for spelly, but I suspect I know the answer.

When was the last time the biggest crowds of the first two rounds were at Richmond Oval?

Did get a mention ... looked anything from a point to out on the full, and even after 2 field unpires queried the goal umpire, he still gave it a sausage roll.

There was also an unfortunate incident in the crowd where an old fella in the stand required some medical attention before the first bounce. Great to see that medical assistance was prompt to help out and hopefully he's OK.

I think the goal umpire got sucked in by Grima celebrating before he kicked it.

Hope the gentleman is ok also.

With the perfect weather conditions there was an aray of great skills on display from both teams.
I think maybe 4-5 "spekky's" in the league, plus a few more in the Reserves.

Wish the ABC were there as would have been a great promotion of the game at it's finest. Hard hitting, fight backs, great goals, great running skills - and we'd all know the answer to the question "was it a goal or a point?" :D

Most of us thought it was out on the full, not that we were well positioned (just to the south of the race). Thought the conference between the umpires was to decide whether it was the goal ump or boundary ump's call. That incident did seem to rattle West; they appeared to be put off their game for the rest of the quarter and Glenelg slammed on 5 more goals at leisure. Full marks to West for not simply going through the motions from that point. West made a game out of the second half. Even when the Bays looked to be comfortably home the Bloods kept the pressure on. West should make the finals if they can keep that up all season.

For mine I was generally happy with the Bays effort but thought they too havew a bit of improvement in 'em. In particular I thought that early on the forwards seemed to be chasing personal glory rather than do the team things. Thankfully they settled as the game wore on.

That heavy knock saw Ryan spend Saturday and Sunday night in hospital. Injured, he played the game out and even took a mark backing into the pack.

Regardless of who you support, that's courage and leadership.

Get better soon, Ryan.

Quality player, from where I was watching from, it appeared to be friendly fire though, R&B as it was a 2 v 1 contest with Roar going for teh mark and it appeared the West player got Ryan instead or Ruory.

Full marks to Ryan for playing the game out as you suggested.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Pretty couragous from Fergy to play out the game, but then sums him up really, doesn't it !! Great player and very gutsy...

Would have to be in some serious doubt for the next few weeks then wouldn't he R&B ?

Glenelg was clearly the better 'team' all match. Their extra time together as a strong group sticking to and developing the game plan really showed.

Too often WA moved the ball forward playing to their game plan and due to Glenelgs pressure there was a bit of hesitation and it all fell down like a house of cards. We also turned it over way too often with simple skill errors.

You can see the improvement in WA but you can also see how much more improvement we have left in us before we are playing our best football possible.

It can be frusterating but it sure is great to watch your team continue to improve. It gives you something to look forward to all week.

Too bad I moved to Pt Lincoln in the off season so I probably wont get to another game until the friday night game late in the season... :(

Such is life.

Just a quick one on the umpires.

I thought two of them were great and one of them a bit overzealous to both sides. It was just the one umpire dishing out the soft ones.

We were directly behind the behind, I mean goal....

Put it this way as it went through the Glenelg faithfull around us groaned. Mistakes happen, but it doesnt stop you seeing red sometimes... It faded across didn't miss by all that much actually so it def wasn't out on the full, but it did hook heavily from left to right.
