VFL Late start

Is there a reason behind the VFL having such a late start to their season? (Doesnt start until next week)

Not that I know of.
All of the suburban and VAFA competitions start next week.
These comps all try to avoid playing one round then having a bye for easter.
Some years they can get away with playing two games before.
I'm not really sure though that the VFL takes much notice of this so
I can't give a definitive reason as to why they are doing it.
