I think people should forget about the umpiring and concentrate on what really matters and that is how your team played on the day and what the future holds for them... besides the umpiring DID NOT affect the result.

For me this was almost a repeat of last week. South completely outplayed Sturt for three quarters and deserved the win that they didn't get. Today, North completely outplayed Sturt in the forward 50's, whether it was in the defensive 50 where they pressured and roved the ball from the packs to move back into attack or the attacking 50 where for the first 2.5 quarters at least, North moved the ball smoothly into the corridor for easy set shots straight in front. Sturt could not buy a goal no matter how many times they bombed it into the forward line.

It was a real contrast...

North fans can certainly let off a sigh of relief confident that they're probably back on track and should be able to improve even on todays performance...

For Sturt fans, we're close to getting things right, but I fear the Bays will beat us next week and we'll be heading into season defining clashes against the Eagles and Centrals in rounds 4 and 5. Its not all doom and gloom, but certainly Sturt need to improve things. Sturt completely dominated the last 10 minutes of the game, going into the forward 50 time and time again, but missing shots 20m out running into goal is a killer to team morale, you just can't let those chances go begging. We had the time and the momentum to snatch a win but alas we didn't do it. But that said, North were the better side and I think the scoreboard accurately reflects who deserved the points today.

Reading the calls about the umpiring, does anyone else think they're going very AFL like? Some insane HTB frees and lost of 25 metre penalties. I hate it, it was one of the things you could rely on in the SANFL, a good, fair standard of umpiring that let things go.

Nup not Richmond, West v bays game was well umpired I thought they let the game go pretty much. Basically if you got first to the footy you were looked after. Don't get me wrong it wasn't perfect both teams got decisions that left you scratching your head and a few non decisions were paid but all in all like the standard of the footy was pretty good.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The Double Blues have has their discipline issues over the last couple of seasons and there were signs of it again this afternoon. They didn't deserve to win today, and were lucky to be so close at full time.

BUT...The most disappointing thing about today apart from losing was that all spectators lost an opportunity to witness a high scoring shootout between 2 teams that were on the attack from the opening bounce. Once the whistles came out and players started to have doubts about what they could and couldn't do any hope of having a classic game was dashed.

Well played North. Pick up your game Blues.

Boo to the umpires of the SANFL in 2010 so far. Until you give the paying public a clear reason for your decisions then this booing will continue, or the crowds will gradually disappear, or both.

I might give the AFL a go tonight :(

Not like AFL, the AFL is much better, you quite often see games with less than 40 frees and stuff all 50 metres. Today there would have been at least 10 25 metre penalties and Im guessing at least 50 frees if not more. Official stats will probably prove me wrong though.

Great win today but a new world record was set with 25m penalties.

Entertaining game which was ruined a bit by the umps.

One of our biggest problems is we don't set up defensively in case we miss a set shot. By the time we realise that we missed the shot North had already kicked out and had free players everywhere. That undiscipline is worse than giving away free kicks.
Also we still don't crumb.
Well played by North today. And no, the umps didn't cost us the game but they cost us being able to watch what should have been a great game.

Will it be tough for Sturt to make the top 3 already?

You would think they will need to win about 12 out of 18 games (going on last year) and still have Centrals 3 times and Glenelg twice.

Funny, that was one of your real strengths under McGowan your discipline to set up for the kick in and your other stuctures.

Is it the defensive structure that isn't there or are the players being lazy/selfish to the defensive side of the game and not adhering to the structure in place.

Sturt are a top 3 side. So are North. The first round can be written off as extenuating circumstances. I'm quite happy with the way North responded. I'm sure Sturt supporters aren't too worried at the moment either.
