Just a quick question

Postby whufc » Fri Apr 02, 2010 6:28 pm

Jonathon Griffen has been dropped by the Crows this week since Central have a bye he will be playing for another clubs reserves side.

He didn't play for Centrals in Round 1 so will this game for another reserves side count as 1 game for him to qualify for finals?

Once answered this topic can probably be deleted.

awesome thanks, come to think about it he probably won't be allowed to play finals even if he qualifys.
He will probably spend most the year with the Dogs and the crows will be looking to trade him so they will hold him back.

& that is where the system is flawed, sanfl clubs have these players going back & forth & then when an sanfl club wants them come finals time the two afl franchises get the players to say ''i don't want to take someones spot''

Or he wont want too so he doesn't risk injury so he can picked up by another club or traded. FWIW I don't think he'll be traded as he's been shopped around the last few years but could be an option for Gold Coast.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Remember its now a FIVE game qualification.

(Unless Crows and Power are still alive and that player is on the fringe of AFL selection, then # of SANFL games does not matter they can play.)

Presumably the travelling/named emergency doesn't get a credit for a qualifying game though?

Will Young has missed the first two Norwood games on "Crows duty" but hasn't actually played for them. At the very least he must get a match payment from the Crows, but I doubt he gets a credit for a game with Norwood.

No i think he has to play at some level of sanfl to be credited a game.

unless the rule has been changed he qualifies as having had 2 games with norwood, this happened with richie douglas last year that played 1 game for glenelg but qualified because he was the travelling emergency that didn't play on at least 2 other occasions

I don't think so. Pretty sure you can only play if you're returning from injury.

isn't it that you can play for another sanfl clubs reserves team that is sitting bottom if you own sanfl club has the bye ?

IF the Crows want Griffin to have a run in the SANFL, he will be allowed to play with the bottom placed reserved side if his club (Central) have a bye. Regardless of whether he plays this weekend or not, it will count as a qualification game as mentioned.

Jay Nash has travelled to Perth with the Power so that also qualifies as a game for Central despite the fact they have the bye. Any travelling emergency for either AFL side will have that weekend allocated to their qualification tally (unless there is a late withdrawal* from the AFL and they get a call up to AFL duties).

Spot on Big Phil.

From past history, a player will play in the bottom placed reserves team only if they are returning from injury and would automatically be in the AFL team's starting 22. For example, if Knights' or Rodan's SANFL team had a bye this round, they would probably play in the bottom placed reserves team.
