Richard Williams was the only decent umpire out ofthe 3 last week at Richmond. It's a pity the rest don't retire and we have him solo umpiring instead, game would be better to watch.
All the best Richard, an exceptional career IMHO.

Weird time for it happen. One might assume that they're completely pissed off with the way they're directed to umpire? Wouldn't blame them if that's the case and I commend them. Might be something completely different and a coincidence too.

If you want more correct decisions than wrong, I'd be trying to keep them, there are some aweful decision makers atm

Some of the umpiring I have seen in the past 2 weeks has been over officious, last Friday against West Richard Williams was the only umpire that didn't stand out, only because he umpired the game as it should be.

It makes you wonder why 2 senior umpires would bust their arses through another pre season only to pull the pin 2 games in, I'd love to know the real reasons for the retirements.

The SANFL will be much poorer for their departure

I use to hate Williams and Pfieffer but since we have had knew umpires coming through i have realised how good a job both these two did.

For mine the umpire that really needs to go is Colin Rowston, he is terrible, must have been picked on as a kid his just thee for a power trip

Well spotted bloods08, it was this "BUMP" that got the rumours moving (great news that they are still going on though)

well word from a umpire i know told me that they both announced their retirements, so that'll do me ;)

Well he's definitely back but you must wonder whether he was asked to come back?
Are umpire numbers a problem at minute even at SANFL level?

Did bump it but it was definitely announced at the end of last season in other places than this site that Williams was pulling the pin.
Thought I'd rehash it when I saw him on the box on Saturday and was just posing the question was he asked to come back or - now that others have commented - was it a "Clive Waterhouse" rstyle retirement where the person has never actually retired but a rumour starts somewhere and everyone including officialdom at the highest level assumes it's true.
