Heard a whisper that the chief has left the shed and accepted an offer to play for Portland. Only problem is, he owes the $10k sign on fee to Bankers and they won't clear him until the money is paid. (Unfinancial player means clearance denial). Any bankers keen to shed some light on this?

Do you mean Portland in the Western Border League or Portland (ex Riverside) in the SAAFL Div 3 ?

Huge loss for Thunderers if true. Can anyone confirm this?

Surprised it took this long to make it on here, he's off to Hamilton in the Western Border league

Dissapointing that he left it this late to leave, doesnt really give us much chance at recruiting somebody to help fill his shoes

Think of next year, if you finish last as I expect, based on my research this will cause an issue for your club that I do not believe you could handle in your first year!!

I actually enjoy reading Da's posts, they are inteligent, amusing and the majority of the time spot on the money. The only reason you dont like him is because he verbally cuts you up into little pieces with his posts.
If you think the devils will finish last in the next two seasons you clearly have no idea about anything. Maybe you should start researching your own club and find out why you cant make the 5!!!!

onkas could be a surprise packet picked d butcher good tall leaping full forward , kicked alot of goals in a struggling flagstaff side and adam vonow massive wraps as a junior if he stays fit will be a big in for onkas, got to have a look at lofty sat night and they looked pretty slicked a small forward mirraz or something looked sharp and a new full forward and a ruckman that moves just as well as bawden. jmac wasnt playing either. The loss of neilson to sturt is a big hole but good on the young fella hope he goes well. As for the cheif bradley it is the melbourne side portland 43k a year not bad especially when uve just come from a season up in nt getting paid for the tahs!

It is quiet .... my predictiions for season 2010

1. Uraidla - too strong, seem to have kept the same squad
2. Mt Barker - what do people think about this??? had a good return to form late last year plus a few handy inclusions - bit of a roughy?
3. Blackwood - generally always around the mark
4. Handorf - lost a couple, team full of individuals
5. Onka's - seems a bit quiet but may be a good thing, will probably underachieve as per usual
6. Mt Lofty - lost a few, may find themselves not playing in finals. thoughts?
7. Birdwood - heard have signed a few more from town, plus young blokes will only get better
8. Ironbank - not sure about the thunderers
9. Bridgewater - should look forward to playing lobethal again
10. Lobethal - enough said

Any thoughts?

Spoke to a guy from Southern Eagles (Back to Back Premiers in the Yorke Peninsula League) who played Lobethal in a trial last week and Lobethal beat them quite comprehensively. He was speaking to some of the Lobethal boys after the game and was told that they've picked up 9 recruits from predominantly Norwood & North Adelaide. Not sure what level they have played and not saying they are going to make the 5 but they may not be the easybeats that they have been.

The Top 5 in no particular order will be Uraidla, Blackwood, Hahndorf, Lofty & Mt.Barker. Too early to know the impact the Mt.Barker recruits will have. 6-8 will be fought out between Onka's, Birdwood & Lobethal. The wooden spoon will be fought out between Ironbank & Bridgewater. Ironbank have never beaten Uraidla at A grade level and Bridgewater haven't beaten Uraidla since the 90's and both sides won't get near Uri's again this year. Both sides are a joke and with their sh*t house facilities and postage stamp ovals should be playing in Div 2. When they do beat Uraidla I might start paying them some respect.

Great Idea Ted! I think the league should only include those that can be competitive with the almighty Demons this year. What a great league we could have - Blackwood, Hahndorf, Uraidla and Lofty - who needs the others?? Just imagine, games away from Blackwood wouldnt have a single Woods supporter at them, Night games every week at Lofty, and always cold and wet games at Uris. Imagnie the $$$ that would flow into the HFL and clubs hands... YES PLEASE!!

And given your previous post ted I figure you may need a little help picking up the tone of that response. Hint of sarcasm I believe

Had a look at bridgewater and Cove yesterday. Gets me why they would play on a sunday but anyway. Raiders got up by bout 10 goals. Moved the ball quite well and look to have added some quality footballers. Not saying they'll be world beaters but they will definitely not get the wooden spoon. Looked really fit and quick too.

Wow, you've changed your tune (from about page 655):

I tried very hard to find one for you in my new project, but it didn’t work out. :(
However, I look forward to locking swords again this year! :D
I am also disappointed that Madson has been left behind, perhaps I will find out why, at the Stirls shortly?
In the meantime I think IB will be a finals contender this year (after being quiet over the last couple)
The way they play for their coach ( plus helpers) will push them through and any new coach should not discount this.

No stress though, I don't hate you blokes.

I just wish you were up for a night game on the 24th, but never mind. Should be a good game regardless.

In terms of me not being able to handle issues in my first year......OK  .

I was chatting to the Cove president a couple of weeks back, who said their side was looking pretty good for 2010. So that's a great result for the Raiders.

Would love to see a good old fashioned close contest between the Devs and Shanty this year!

Great to see that in the past 48 hours there's been posts saying how well Lobethal, Bridgewater and Onkas have done with new recruits. This is all great stuff for the comp and will hopefully see the end of big one-sided scorelines.

The loss of Chief Bradley will hit Ironbank hard though.

Just on that, I had a chat to a few of the Loby boys (players and committee members) a couple of weeks back. They were saying that their recruits have all settled in well and are looking very handy.

Agree that it's good for the comp. It would be great to have a season where anyone could make the 5. Although I do think Uri, Mt Ronnie and Blackwood will be the measuring sticks.

In B Grade was a shalaking, but A grade Lofty were up by 2 goals when I left early in 3rd so doubt was easy (unless they had a last quarter like the Cows)!!

DA - you reckon Lofty have fallen off the pace enough to drop outta the 5, or the others have caught up?
And I wouldn't be putting too much emphasis on pre-season games, I filled in for one last year with about 6 other blokes that probably wouldn't have made the side during season-proper, so the squads usually change a fair bit.
And on lobey - their 2 seasons plus without a win, does anyone know if that's anywhere near a Central div record?

Not sure mate, as I haven't been up to many trainings and couldn't make it to either preseason games.

I'm purely going by ins/outs and other clubs seem to have done very well on the 'in' side of the ledger.

Blackwood were good last year and have added a couple of very high quality players. Mt Barker finished last year well and have imported a bunch of Glenelg players. Uri haven't lost anyone by all accounts.

So IMO, it'a a matter of us being around a similar mark to last year (Although losing Bawden, J Temme and Fleet hurts), with other teams improving.

I'm confident that our younger blokes can step up again and have a great season. There's a bunch of quality young locals that are around the 50-100 game mark now.

Yeah good, despite Pooraka going the biff more than playing footy! I think it was three of their players got sent off.
The A's looked good - got up by 5gl and the B's got up by about 10gl.
The A's looked much better than against Willaston when we were missing a lot of starting A graders.
