Very sad news indeed :(

Lets hope the magill store remains open.

Does anyone know if the marion and norwood stores are still open??

I wonder how long before there gone!

Woodwt, they moved to Golden Grove some time back but have since closed down too.

Porthole Records down at Port Adelaide is still going strong*

I was in town last week and there was still a handful of things available in the city store at 50% off (I picked up the Only Ones first album on CD which I couldn't believe was still there). Apparently what remaining stock there is will end up at Magill Road and they will be doing orders again very soon (have the inside word on that ;) )
BTW Vic who use to be a part of Big Star records has two stores (Mr V Music) one is behind Big Star in the City and the other down at Semaphore Road. Well worth a look.

I must admit I was surprised the Porthole guy (can't remember his name now) re-opened the store after that huge fire. I remember anytime I use to go in there years ago it would seem he had knocked another day off the opening hours (5 days a week down to 4 days then down to 3 days wasn't it?).

Years ago I used to reguarly trade stuff in at Big Star (city), Porthole, Andromeda (Fat Ian was running Big Star's second hand area downstairs for awhile after that I think), Verandah and while I haven't done a trade in in years it seems all that's really left now are Rev (hardly buys anything) & The Muses (have a small second hand section but no idea what kind of prices they give) aside from cashies which I personally wouldn't ever bother with.

Anyone remember Factotum Books (was next to Thrash, Grind & Grunge I think)?

Yeh, even though the sign says that their open hours are 'x' it doesn't mean they'd be open. I always ring ahead. Haven't been there for at least 3 years though.

Yeah. It was run by a good mate of mine. Closed the retail shop and went on line after his third raid by the thought police....sorry...SA police.

BTW you know you are getting old when you remember Andromeda being upstairs in Victoria Square!

Supposedly Market Bazaar in Synagogue Place will be gone in June and B Sharp Records are scaling back their operation too.

Isn't Market Bazaar the cheap & dingy secondhand CD joint at the end of the street?

Bit harsh? I've always found them very friendly (maybe over friendly at times) but I agree they are quite overpriced

I don't buy any vinyl so not sure about any great online stores however if you're into hard rock/metal I know of Squirrell Gripp Records (I think they are based here in SA) but they seem a bit pricey. They usually have stalls at those semi-regular record collectors fairs.

eBay for 2nd hand, CD Wow for new. Red Eye are good but pricey. Recently bought a record from JB online (the horror!) but it was cheap and well packed. Lots of good ones overseas like GEMM but the freight kills it. Would be keen to hear of other online OZ shops too

I've got a pretty good vinyl collection that is pretty good nick - I'm picky about what I buy and what I keep. Went into Market Bazaar a few weeks back and had a good look around. If I could get some of the prices I saw in there for some things that I have - in better condition - I'd be very, very happy. Suffice to say, I don't think I would.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

I'm pretty sure The Muses stock a bit of vinyl too.

Rock therapy on Goodwood Road is good but again a bit on the pricey side - but I guess good secondhand vinyl is only going to get more expensive...

Agree ZZ...I go into Rocktherapy a fair bit on the way home from work sometimes. Its OK...can find a few good vinyl's in there but it is overpriced. Just depends how desparate you are for that vinyl.

I think eBay is joke....especially when you add the postage to it.

I went to Vinylpalooza on the weekend and picked up a few good records. The 5 for $20 was a good deal but you take a risk when you get home and look at the condition of them. A few I bought looked a bit dodgy....usually at Vinylpalooza you can get them down a bit on the price.

Like you said "Good second hand vinyl is not getting cheaper".....Ive got a few rare ones in my collection at home that I hope will be worth a bit in years to come :D

BTW - Any vinyl from the Aussie band "The Church" PM me ;)
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!
