Great game to watch with the scores at the end changing all the time. Entertaining footy.

I thought we were so unlucky to get the draw. Sturt to me did not seem switched on at all. I think they were mentally unprepared....maybe even thought to themselves "It's only South" today mentality....who knows but I thought they were very flat.

South were hard at it fromt he start which seemed to rattle Sturt. I think Sturt were "Shellshocked" a bit.

Looking at the 2 sides Sturt I believe came back on their experience. South had 2 guys over the age of 25. I think 11 new faces in the side.

You can tell South are playing a different brand of football which is exciting to watch. Fuller has them drilled in well and you can see the guys respect him.
Its only round 1 so hard to gage where the team is but to have a good crack of a Grand Final side from last year like this can only be a good thing.

Very proud of the guys today....exciting times ahead :)

Couldn't agree with you more there southee, good assessment. I also don't think Sturt were switched on and if they were thinking it's only South then I really wish you would have smashed us just for the reality check.
Take nothing away from South though. They stuck to their gameplan and were very disciplined with their zoning and pushing back. When you caused a turnover in our forward line your guys sprinted forward not allowing us to get back in time.
A bit of experience would have got you over the line today. The result should hold you guys in good stead for your upcoming games.

Any news on whether South are going to get this Solo sponsorship thing sorted out or is it just not going to be allowed and you guys have to get new guernseys?

IMHO, Bass will not play AFL and will need some lucky breaks to play consistently at SANFL league level. Gets moved off the ball way too easy for mine. Tries hard and I guess his skills will be on an upward path. Pittard I did not notice (good or bad).

It has been sorted but not in favour of South Adelaide. The Other 8 Clubs are picking up the tab for a new set of jumpers........

A thoroughly entertaining game of football, with South really giving a stack for a long time before the experienced heads of Sturt stood up. One late passage with Sheedy going to Chambers, who dished off quickly to Nelson, summed up how the older heads step up at the crucial times.

South should take a lot from this. Brilliant SANFL debut from Nick "Meggsy" Liddle - really like the way he approaches it and burrows in to win contested footy before streaming on again. Cockshell was very influential on the contest and the difference in his approach on the footy, compared with some games at Norwood, is hugely noticeable. Really steps up when it counts. Some of the youngsters like Curtis Perrey and Peter Rolfe showed excellent signs and while Guy O'Keefe was generally, extremely quiet in his SANFL debut, his class showed out with the late goal.

Sturt seemed really sluggish at times, but that would take away a lot of recognition for how well South shut down their ability to run and create in space. Often, their body pressure forced the Blues into numerous sideways passages of possession that largely went nowhere, before bombing in hope to a clogged 50. Not wholly sure how the three ruck situation will go longer term, although their height did stretch South - just wondering if smaller, faster teams could exploit that. Gum had plenty of the ball, but a lot a it seemed to be fairly short chipping. Sheedy was excellent throughout and Myles was outstanding - almost Sturt's best for mine, with creative run from defence.

Not sure if there is always justice in footy at the time, but sometimes the result makes sense later in the season. If South really take the positives from it, but learn a lot more from some of the mistakes they made at times, it could be a real turning point.

Sorry to be pedantic CK, but it was M-i-les, Sam Miles. Otherwise known to a couple of us as SMiles :) I thought he was excellent as well, on a dirty day for most of the Sturt defenders.
