the captain had a chance to seal it but seemed to rush it . why not go back and take as much time as he needed?

sturt never seemed to get out of second gear all day. south played the better footy on the day.

BOG cockshel for mine in an entertaining game.

Cockshell and Perry were the best for the panthers for me. Sturt were ordinary and were lucky to get away with a draw today. They really didn't look interested from go to woah.

firstly, south played better for 90% of the game...they would and should be shattered that they didnt win that game.

they were first at it, had numbers, ran harder, cut of chambers feed and were just more hungry...sturt were flat, lazy and missed targets...we just pegged them back bit by bit from about the 20 min mark of the 3rd qtr.

funny how the last qtr lasted longer than any other and had the least amt of goals kicked in it almost...siren should have sounded earlier when both sides took over the lead...not happy we drew but cant believe we didnt lose, that just shows that south just need to learn how to win.

sturt over used the ball WAY too much and i hope we improve on that earlier than later...i know its just the first game and all but still, got to iron out those things early and i expect normo to rip them up.

south had some great players today, cockshell was good and liddle and horne were all over it...for sturt, thurstans got a lot of it but over used it, mcglone, sheedy and giles were good for sturt, hinge and hassan good too.

south need to improve and go forward from this, not like last year when they lost the next 15 or so. potential is finally there maybe?

that is the only thing that i can take from this game...we played shit and south played the best ever, and it was a draw...but i'd hate to have sturt come out the same way next week.

Great effort by South - didn't deserve to lose so to get a draw out of it is something I guess.

Sturt looked flat (maybe as a result of the trip to Darwin last week) and their skills weren't up to their usual high standards.

i would be very surprised to get within 10 goals of u guys next week.whos gunna stop chambers? i cant see sturt playing that bad 2 weeks in a row where as north easily can . plus the fact norths ruck division is poor at the minute.

anyway back on topic, if south can produce that type of performance throughout the year they wont be collecting the spoon.

We over used the footy big time and we were very lucky as South were unlucky to only get the draw !!!

As an optimist I will take the draw as good sides find some way to scrap points when needed !!!

Blue boy i agree with you there, south were the better team for most of the day, to me it would be an injustice if sturt actually got up as we didnt deserve it. i will still take the point from the game, round 1 last year we got belted by the bays.

north will be a challenge next week as they are wanting to play better on their home deck than what they produced friday night, they were appalling.

How did the ex basketballer and Power rookie Bass go in the Reserves? Also from an AFL viewpoint, how did Pittard go for Sturt's Reserves?

As disappointed as I am with the result today I do feel that South showed some definite improvement today. Last years side would likely have seen a margin of 70pts + to Sturt which is a result no doubt a number of people thought would be the outcome of todays match. Sturt had the wind in the last 1/4 and used it well, our defence let them back into the game and the rest is history.

Did Sturt have an off day today? Have South actually improved, I think the results of the matches next week against North and Norwood respectively will be a pretty good indication of where each club is at.

Very impressed with the pressure put on Sturt by South today, for 3 quarters at least. A bit of experience no doubt helped us in the last. But I'm excited by the prospect of South and Westies being quite competitive this year. Time will tell I guess.

Pfffft! Dumb comment of the round. It's always sloppy in round one and we're not an elite comp anymore. We're never goin to have 36 silky skilled players per game.
I've been to 3 games this round and to me the standard has been as good if not better then last year. Especially Glenelg. They looked very slick to me. Hopefully they win the May premiership again and peak too early ;)

Have to say Im still quite shattered..... :(

Great game to watch with the scores at the end changing all the time. Entertaining footy.

I thought we were so unlucky to get the draw. Sturt to me did not seem switched on at all. I think they were mentally unprepared....maybe even thought to themselves "It's only South" today mentality....who knows but I thought they were very flat.

South were hard at it fromt he start which seemed to rattle Sturt. I think Sturt were "Shellshocked" a bit.

Looking at the 2 sides Sturt I believe came back on their experience. South had 2 guys over the age of 25. I think 11 new faces in the side.

You can tell South are playing a different brand of football which is exciting to watch. Fuller has them drilled in well and you can see the guys respect him.
Its only round 1 so hard to gage where the team is but to have a good crack of a Grand Final side from last year like this can only be a good thing.

Very proud of the guys today....exciting times ahead :)
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!
