Collins taken his mob forward perhaps?

Wasn't at the game but based on what I heard of the commentary and gleaned from the stats, Westies played 4 full, solid quarters of attack on the footy and "scoreboard pressure".

An ugly weekend ahead for the North squad, one senses. Plenty of soul searching on and off the track. North play Sturt at Prospect in Round 2 - can they fight back or will they struggle again? That's the big question.

Meanwhile, Westies front the Bays at Richmond again which could shape up as the match of the round.

All jokes aside North fans I wouldn't get too dis-heartened, the 1995 premiers lost their first game by 93 pts...

Long way to go yet
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

What a superb start to 2010. A performance like that gets ones hopes up. I hope there is another 12 or so games like that for the bloods this year.

Backline looks very solid. Midfield was good as were the forwards. If only we kicked straight.

Removing the fact that generally on historic occasions like these the home side seems to play with extra incentive and win well (eg South's first game at Noarlunga, Sturt's return to Unley etc)......

How good were West and how terrible were North??

From the Live Scores thread, (posts from myself and Spelly), and of interest for the Review thread:

Crowd was 6,133

Fisher and Ezard 24 possessions each, Schmidt and Ferguson 21 each
Ezard 9 tackles.

James Allan 35 possessions

Hits out WA 42- NA 29 (Lobbe 23)
Frees WA 31, NAFC 28.

Highest crowd at Richmond between West and North since Round 2 1975.
And lowest score by North at Richmond, was 5.7 in Round 4 1961.

highest crowd at Richmond since Rd 3 1990

Apparently there was a dust storm half way through the last quarter as North supporters all left the car park en masse - literally - according to the commentators on 5RPH

It was an amazing atmosphere at Richmond tonight, Westies got a pretty good run with the umpires its fair to say, yet its also fair to say that their side looks like they have really improved their skill level, had they kicked straighter it could well have been all over at half time. Westies no doubt still have a way to go yet, but signs are looking pretty good for them after tonight I must say!

I think the recent events at Richmond have really galvanised the playing group. Losing their changerooms, medical facilities and Coach's office, coupled with first game under lights at Richmod, it was obvious from the first 5 minutes that Westies were on and North appeared flat.

Really was a "All played well." Ezard probably Best on Ground. New recruits in Ronaldson, Caruso, Hartlett and Silvester all showed good signs and slotted in nicely. Touch of class with Porplyzia and Pettigrew.

Hard to pick Norths best, maybe Ryzwick? White tried hard in defence. Wright?

The radio commentators mentioned that the lights were great in the pockets and on the flanks, but that the centre square and goalsquares were somewhat "overcast" shall we say - ie a bit on the dark side. I'd be interested in the views from those who were at the game - The Sleeping Giant suggested the Richmond lights were better than those at Elizabeth.

west were awesome they got i'd say about 80% of contested footy, were fearless, desperate, sharp, worked continously & ATTACKED for the majority of the night & & in numbers this looks great, north on the otherhand were to be honest woeful, ohara was clearly not fit & while north were down 2 players (later in the game) this had no effect on the game, i thought bricknell was best of a great team effort & every player could be included in 'the best players list' while north had imho no effective player on the night.....if bennett could kick straight (usually does) he can give chambo a run for his money for the ken farmer medal.......littlebayman said that the way west came out of defence all night, it looked like a training drill

west = top
north = 8th
but it is only round 1

Sorry, my bad. The memory must be getting fuzzy with old age as I thought I recalled them beating Glenelg in front of a huge Noarlunga crowd.

Anyhow, the question still stands. Were West playing on adrenalin and will they be in for a rude awakening next week or are they the genuine article in 2010? Did North just put in a stinker but will bounce back at home next week against Sturt or are there problems at Menzies Crs?

Humour me people....

Over 6000? I thought 3,500...

Great stuff by Westies. North very disappointing given the perfect conditions and the quality talls they had in their line up.

bloods08,
No comment about Norths flooding - interesting. ;)

i didn't think north were out there ;) btw both teams had numbers back & north more so as they were under pressure, however there was no full on flood by either team & to what we saw in the trial game(s) so i think andy collins outfoxed everyone including me   ;)

ps, if they play like that all year they'll give it (the flag) a shake but can it be sustained ????

On the AdelaideNow blog they said that the Champion Data people (who should know) rated the crowd at 4000-4500?
