the panthers may be in Strife if you have McKernan in the ruck and Forward Pocket at the one time, unless Corey is out of Retirement and playing for them...

Probably Ron playing games trying to conceal where our tallest player will actually line up. Very cunning.

A team using an opposition CEO's comments as motivation for a game of football, now I really have heard it all. If that is what Ron Fuller & South are resorting to to get themselves up for a round 1 home match, then it's going to be a long five years.....

For the record, Matt Benson was quoted in the Eastern Courier when the draw was released as suggesting the reigning Grand Finalists perhaps deserved a more attractive crowd pulling fixture and if I recall correctly he offered no disrespect to South. Ideally Sturt deserved a home game to kick off 2010 but I guess outnumbering Panthers suporters 5 to 1 on their own paddock will just have to do.

Sturt would surely have too much ability and experience across the ground to win this one. The Panthers are only just beginning their journey under Ronnie Fuller and they are light on in some areas. Still, good reports about some of their midfield recruits in particular

Yes.....they did...stuff the other clubs....just as long as Sturt and their supporters are happy. How dare we make them drive their 4 wheel drives, Jags and Merc's to Noarlunga Oval....oh even dare I say "Catch a train there??"

I have looked back over my post and as suspected, nowhere did I intimate it was a case of demographics Southee....My argument is quite simple, surely a side that finishes second should be given preference over an opponent that finished bottom when the draw is made?

That being said it will be a pleasant day to take the 4WD down South, pop the boot open and crack a nice, crisp glass of chardy  Talk about an inferiority complex and there hasn't even been a ball kicked in anger yet

Sturt by plenty BTW.

Just a thought, If you look at the locations where the games are being played this week all of them bar one are used for Cricket during the summer and maybe the Footy Clubs that use them don't have Saturday access until after the 31st of March

Pretty certain that doesn't apply to Sturt heater. The Sturt DCC A Grade made the GF this weekend but play their games at Price Memorial Oval anyway. Glenelg DCC were beaten in the semi last weekend but they do play their games at the Bay, so if anything it would make more sense if Glenelg FC were made to schedule home games after the date you suggest, but obviously that isn't a directive.

Two of the SANFL top three are playing at home in round one, why are Sturt not afforded that right? I think that was the CEO's beef?

At the end of the day Sturt are playing South @ Noarlunga and they have to play them away at some stage. If anything it is probably a better time of year to play down there before winter sets in. If the boys have got their melons screwed on correctly and they don't underestimate their opponent, they should collect two premiership points regardless of all the other arguments.

that may be the case but I think that those that share their grounds do not take full control of them again until April 1. They might be able to use them during the week, if they have an excellent relationship with their co-inhabitant but what would happen if for example Sturt CC's C & D grade teams qualify for home GF's? One would play at Hawthorn and the other @ Unley. Hence the reason why Sturt are playing away in rd 1. Glenelg on the other hand is a different case. Their oval hasn't had a cricket match played on it since before Christmas due to the SACA upgrade hence the Footy club are able to have a home game first up.

Exactly - the other 2 times this season are at Unley. You can't play at home every week!

We'll be missing Plant due to his cricket final I think. Johncock would be in our best 21 but has to come back through the ressies due to him staying in Darwin. So that makes a couple missing. Close to full strength though.

WOW! You're a really funny guy! And you've such a vivid and inventive imagination! How do you come up with such original and witty stuff, do you workshop it with some mates over a beer, gee willickers I'd like to sit in in one of those, they sound like such fun.

The Sturt v South 16's/18's game is being played at Hahndorf this weekend due to Unley Oval not being available for this weekend. It was left vacant in case the Sturt C's or D's made the GF and were the hosting club. The Sturt 16's/18's will be back at Unley Oval for a game in round 2 when they play North.

I'm amazed at the ridiculously lopsided odds being offered on this game i.e.
South $9.75
Sturt $1.02

You can throw our 2009 form in the rubbish bin given the changes that have occurred in the offseason.

We'll be way more competitive tomorrow than those prices suggest.
The market should be more like:-
South $4.75
Sturt $1.20

Still I'll be having a piece of the $9.75 on offer!
