That's no good at all. I might have missed something written somewhere but how did he receive the injury? Hope he has a complete recovery and is back playing footy as soon as he is able.

Sadly, it was from his team-mate...

Two South blokes both committed for the ball, but no communication, as Luke went to slide in to gather the ball, Tom Carroll was coming across the line of where Luke was sliding and I think it was Tom's knee that collided with the face of poor Luke.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I think the incident, and resluting injury, was very similar to that of James Hird over in Perth a few years back. I think that was from one of his Bomber team-mates as well, Mark McVeigh if my memory serves me correct.

As I mentioned, it was a horrific injury and one of the worst I have ever seen live, even worse close up through the binoculars from no more than 100m away. There was a lot of blood and he didn't look in a good way, even Nathan Bassett, who I was sitting about 5m from, was all squirmish and didn't want to hear me saying that there was a hell of a lot of blood coming from Luke's face.

Again, all the best in your recovery Luke, we hope you are not in too much pain...

I remember Hird's injury and that was bad enough. This one sounds a bit worse. Hope a few South supporters can keep us updated with his recovery. Best of luck to the young lad.

I've been speaking with the South Adelaide reserves runner, who advised me the extent of his injuries. I'm sure he will keep me updated with Luke's recovery and I will post accordingly.

I was at Norwood last Friday night and within 50' of the incident.

Firstly the lad showed tremendous courage to slide into to ball, and then was collected by his own team mate,
it was a sickening blow, clearly heard around the ground.

Secondly he showed a great deal of courage again whilst on the ground when it was obvious to all that a major injury was sustained

I too wish the lad well for a rapid pain free recovery

Cheers

An update from the club:

"Injured Harrip positive about return

South Adelaide player Luke Harrip hopes to return to training in three months after suffering a sickening collision in Friday's Reserves trial game against Norwood.

Luke's head connected with Tom Carroll's elbow as both players only had eyes for the ball. Tom required nine stitches to a laceration on his elbow, while Luke came off far worse.

In the Royal Adelaide Hospital since Friday night he'll undergo surgery on Thursday to repair his broken jaw, nose and fractured cheek bone and eye socket. Following the surgery he will be required to spend a further week in hospital and a minimum of six weeks off work.

Despite the horrific injury the boy from Blackwood's only thought is on returning to the Panthers as soon as possible. Luke joined the club this pre-season and had been making steady progress, with Friday night being his most impressive showing thus far. His high and brave marking was a highlight until suffering the injury during the third term.

We wish him all the best in his recovery and hope to see him back around the Club very shortly."

Interesting that the boy from Blackwood joined the Panthers this year - presumably he was released by Westies?

Maybe he played at Blackwood but lives in South's zone.
