8 track cartridge tapes

I recently bought an old 8 track player with about 30+ cartridge tapes, they sound great

Who remembers them??

Also does anyone know of or know where is some 8 track cartridge tapes for sale??

Yes Woodwt, fond memories.

A mate of mine has an infatuation with the 8 tracks, and recently purchased two 8 track machines and has about 40 cartridges.

My memories are from the late 70's early 80's when dad purchased a 1968 Mercedes Benz, complete with 8 track. We had 3 cartridges, War Of The Worlds, Olivia Newton-John's Greatest Hits, Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits, and they got FLOGGED endlessly especially when we used to go on road trips and we couldn't pick up AM radio. Problem was, the 8 track used to warble the music so we never actually got a full harmony on any song. Mind you, I didn't notice much. On a trip somewhere, dad got sick of the warbling, wound down the window and ditched the S&G 8 track. "And then there were two". I was devastated, there was 33% of my music listening GORN!

Regarding the format - I used to love the fact that you could listen to both sides of an LP without having to switch it over.

Question, where did you get the 8 track from?

dunno, doubt it though.

Have you tried Lyons' clubs et al, they tend to have them stashed away in their droves!

no i havent , are they those lion clubs trash and treasures??

I have been 2 salvo,red cross save the children, vinnies and they have nothing.
Also tried gepps cross markets and they have nothing either

Pretty much the same as Salvos. I've just heard from a mate they tend to have more 'odd' stuff due to the fact that they are a little less well known.

Not sure Woodwt, you might have to give them a buzz. I know my mate works close by the Glenside one and says it has heaps of older stuff. He's looking out for me for a battery operated portable record player. He picked one of these up at Lions Glenside a few years back and says that they have them semi regularly.

I just had a look around the net and noticed this site..http://www.8trackheaven.com/

I forgot to mention, my mate "was" so much of an 8 track freak he went to an auto electrician to see if he could get his portable 8 track player mounted in his Suzuki Vitara! The "portable" 8 track machine would've been the size of a desktop PC.

I'm in the fortunate position where none of my favorite bands were ever released on 8 track.......it would have just meant another format to collect/buy
