Wonder if Greiger will cop a hip and shoulder from Willits like Hassan did last week

Half time: West 3.2 Eagles 5.6. West struggled to get the ball out of the defensive half during that quarter.

So am I. Particularly after todays poor effort. Thank god (pardon the pun) it was just a trial.

Well done to the Eagles, you easily out played us.

Two certainties after this game.
One is Bernie Vince will play for the Crows next week (he was directly responsible for the first three Eagles goals) and two we couldnt have played any worse if we tried. I think from the begining of the second quarter to the 20 minute mark of the third quater we did not hit a target by foot. They were dreadful by foot, I would hate to think how many turnovers we had in that period. Really disappointed today after the last two weeks efforts...thank god it was only a trial ;) . First half we must have had 100 interchanges, it was as busy as the Britania roundabout, I guess trying to save legs for friday nights round one game.Threw the players momentum out I feel. Couldnt give a best player for West because I didnt think there was one (maybe Ezard if I had to give one)

Went along for a look today....... Hopefully the footings for the lights at Richmond don't suffer from all the flooding that the West Adelaide team did today! ;)

After last nights big win for us, I pity those Westies supporters who are going to have to put up with that all year!!! ;)

Eagles probably had 65% of the play today and the main reason they didn't score 20+ goals and West only scored 5 was the HUGE flood West put on in the second half.
Groecke terrific as were Goldsworthy and Rowntree. Grieger solid in defence. Eagles intensity was good today and their kick in strategy was far superior than in previous years-reminded me of how we cleared the ball under Paul Hamilton.
Damn shame we have a bye next week, we will be under done for round 2.

IMHO First Half was the most intense trial game footy I have ever seen.
West Flooded like it was a biblical story.
Stand out eagle players (minus Vince who was everywhere and did what ever he wished)
Stuart Hill took on the old Grocke roll .And he was very very good at it.
Adam Grocke ran all day as he was freed up by Hill.
Mathew Goldsworthy had a horror first quarter and then played some great footy.
Seb and Hoops rucked supreme and played very much like their ruck coach did in the afl ;)
Cica was just Cica didn't take a backwards step those that saw the first quarter will know what i mean.
Grieger solid in defence
Triers
Hicks did some good stuff
Lewis finding his feet
Day ditto day
staple needs to do a little more .

That was our last trail i can't wait until round 2

Good trial for the Eagles, particularly being able to test our ball movement against the "flood". Hope the expected input of AFL players doesn't disrupt the team for our first game in Round 2. Whereas Nick Salter is likely to be a valuable regular for us, we could easily have Brett Burton (playing his way back from his knee injury) fronting up and Mitch Banner although Chris Knights is likely to be rushed straight back into the Crows without AFL game time and Petrenko might play the first 2-3 games in the Crows before they get their full team running.
Don't know what to make of Ben Grieger - can't kick, not quick, only a one position player but so far, an effective ugly full back - jury may be out till he stands Chambers, Walker, Centrals guy etc.
There was a defining moment for Staple at the northern end when he led strongly through 3 Westies players at C Half Forward and took a strong O/head, missed the goal though but good to see a more confident aggressive approach this year.
After Jared Polec looked set for a big year based on the last half of 2009 and disappointing that he hasn't gone further....yet

Forgot about Broadbent too. A gun SANFL player who, due to missing much of the NAB season, will probably be with us for at least 7-10 games this year.
Even though Peter Hoban doesn't get a kick/mark stat (& didn't we cane Brett O'Hara for as much), he gives us a much greater presence around the ball with his strong body than does young Jared Redden - sets the mood for the whole team when you've got a brute of a guy lining up for the centre bounce.
Last season Hicks was copping a lot of unfair criticism - critics are a little silent lately.

Premiers I will agree with you when you say the AFL players will or could disrupt the team .The AFL game style isn't quiet the same as "OUR" SANFL game. That was very clear when doubleJ was near the action in the first quarter.Of course after he was put down by a certain westies player he went off came back on he seemed to fit right in. ;) Of course by then the entire eagles team had awoken.
I wouldn't worry to much about Jarred Polec .He wasn't alone with league players in the seconds Cheep,Lane ,Daveron all could fight for a league spot.Don't forget at some stage the Eagles must fit in Welsh and Parry.
Which leads to who do u leave out of the Eagles forward line to fit Welsh in?Hill Staples and Grocke are all performing Day is still trying to find his feet. Will make for an interesting selection night.
I would be more worried about players slipping backwards with power listed ruckman Redden. He was dropped to the seconds and replaced by Hoops in his what 3rd ever game of footy. And listening to a very interesting eagles stats team he was out rucking another Power listed ruckman in Lobe.

And away from footy did anyone else notice a liberal politician watching the Bloods .One would have thought being at the polling booths would have been more important . ;)
