The loss of coopers as a sponsor might be punishment enough

Clearly the precedent set is 12 months of no recruiting....

That's punishment enough for one thousand salary cap breaches!

That penalty related to the scale and nature of the breach. There are some guidelines as to the penalties, one being that for a breach under (I think it's) $5,000, the penalty is a dollar-for-dollar fine. I think that's what North are looking at.

Ahh well, just goes to prove that busting the salary cap doesn't ensure any success.

Concur - it's like teams (4 I know of) that illegally use two runners in the SANFL, doesn't win them extra games, but they persist with it anyway. Why risk the fine?

Got sent this today:

North Adelaide Roosters breach salary cap
North Adelaide has become the latest SANFL club to be sanctioned by the league for a breach of the salary cap. The five-figure breach to the 2009 cap relates to payments made by the club to captain Damon White for an assistant coaching role held at the club in 2009. Roosters CEO Glenn Elliott declined to comment extensively on the issue, but said the breach related to Level One versus Level Two coaching classifications for the purposes of “coaching payments”. Norwood was the last club penalised for a salary cap breach, an infringement which cost the club $50,000 and restricted it from recruiting outside its zone for 2010. –Harry Thring

Interesting to see how north go not being able to recruit outside their zone given each year they seem to be able to attract the talent from interstate.

How does this affect playres returning to North from the AFL? for instance if next year Phil Davis got sacked from the Crows (fat chance) would North be able to recruit him?

A better penalty would be to make them donate $100k to Port Magpies. :D
