Agree with Lee's lack of swing, but with all the runs the aussie's have in the bank you got to have men in catching positions

I trust your judgement on the Brisbane weather a lot more than mine so ill keep my money in my pocket. Though i think Ponting will have a nervous night.

I didn't get to watch the days play as been at work all day, does anyone know how serious Ponting injury is, could it keep him out the second test.

It will be cruical to get Pieterson or Jones out early as both look to have the abilites to hang around for a while, but once we get them and Giles it will be over within 5 minutes

Pretty gloomy about the swich this morning whufc! Wrong E Boy may have just struck again!

Ah, that's what happens when I say that - KP gets out and probably they'll fold quickly to get nowhere near the total.

But remember that both Collingwood and Flintoff both had those rush of blood to the head moments - if they didn't, they would be in a much better position at the moment.

And Strauss threw his wicket away in both innings. Jones gone now, Hoggard in. Game over in 30 minutes.

The people having a go at Punter for not enforcing the follow on really do irk me.

England didn't bat too badly in their second innings. Who knows what would have happened if they'd come out following on? They might have scored 550+ or so. That would leave Australia chasing 80 - 180 on the last day.

One huge advantage of batting first is you bowl last. On a pitch with craters and cracks like the canyon on it, and the best leg spinner ever on your side, why wouldn't you use that to your advantage on the last day?

After India at Adelaide - Australia will never enforce a follow on again.

Maybe, but against the better sides, you have to think twice wouldn't you.
I believe the game was in India, not here, where we made them follow on and they made about 670.

Ifs buts maybes.
The fact is, we must all acknowledge that eventual courageous declaration
with only a 648 lead.

Our two key bowlers are 37 and 38 (?),we had been in the field in muggy Brisvegas for the best part of 4 sessions,we had 8 sessions to go,no chance of rain in Australia for months. What TF is all the fuss about?

Fair dinkum BOONEY they were bowling to England not you and REB at WYC.
The world record is about 418 odd[WI v AU] chasing in the 4th innings.
648 is a touch extravagant.
If Ponting had Sydney dog + Peter Falconia taking the new ball he would still win .

You said it with a 37 + 38 +in our bowling attack.

THIS WAS A DEFEATIST ACKNOWLEDGEMENT by Ponting saying our attack is old
and cant hack the distance and we need a certain Qld blonde allrounder to assist.

And as for the 648, way way too many.

Crap mal. Think back to the body language of the English team in the field when we knocked up that 181 runs on the evening of the third day. Nothing defeatist at all about Punter's move in that test. And did we win the game?? 1-0 it was a good decision, 0-0 and it wasn't. Give it up, on this occasion, you're wrong!

Correct Booney... It was good professional cricket. Ponting was never setting a target by getting 650-ahead. Instead, he was setting the tone for the series by saying "we aren't going to give you winging Poms anything. There is no way you will win this test. And, you will need to bat out of your skins to save it". It should be interpreted as a very aggresive move. In addition, it gave our bowlers a break, and inflicted more damage to the confidence of the English bowlers...
