Pakistan bans players after Aussie tour...

Postby Browny25 » Thu Mar 11, 2010 2:26 pm

FORMER Pakistan captains Mohammad Yousuf and Younus Khan have been banned from the national team indefinitely for behaviour that contributed to the team's woeful performances on the recent tour of Australia.

The Pakistan Cricket Board also imposed one-year bans on Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved after implementing the recommendations of an inquiry committee formed to evaluate Pakistan's dismal performances against Australia in December and January.

PCB's legal adviser Taffazul Riziv said: "(Yousuf and Younus) will not be part of any Pakistan team in any format from here on.

"They can play domestic cricket or county cricket here and abroad.

"The PCB has done it thinking it is the right thing to do. It sets an example for the future."

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has slammed the PCB's decision to ban four of its players , saying it had made Pakistan cricket a "laughing stock in the world", and recommended heavy fines instead. Akram was part of the inquiry committee that investigated Pakistan's disastrous tour of Australia, whose findings led to the PCB's decision, but he did not attend any of the meetings due to personal reasons.

"These penalties have made Pakistan cricket a laughing stock in the world," Akram told AFP. "You don't ban players for such problems. Had I attended any meeting or given recommendations I would have suggested fines, but not bans."

Mohammad Yousuf is preparing to retire from all forms of international cricket, a direct result it is believed, of the treatment and punishment the PCB handed out to him in the aftermath of Pakistan's recent Australian tour of which he was captain.
In their findings, the board blamed Yousuf for spreading infighting and indiscipline within the side and banned him for an indefinite period - along with Younis Khan - from all forms of the international game. He was subsequently not included in the central contracts list for this year

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has announced his retirement from international cricket, following an indefinite ban imposed by the PCB in the aftermath of a winless tour of Australia.

"I received a letter from the PCB that my staying in the team is harmful for the team, so I announce my retirement from international cricket," he said in Karachi. "I thank the fans around the world, all the senior players and family members for supporting me throughout my 12-year career.

"I always played for my country and if my playing is harmful for the team then I don't want to play," he said.
