REB you are the leading cricketing authority, would we lose much if Haddin replaced
say an INJURED Gilchrist ?

An honourable servant as in Gilchrist will not rightly get dropped but at 35 and
a below par batting average in the last 18 months...........

Yes Macgill would have Pieterson in 2 minds ...4 or 6 !

Totally agree with you REB, why change a winning formula????? Watson had his chance but he decided to tear a hammy his replacement Clarke performed well for the task at hand making the most of his opportunity. Gilchrist has a weakness and the poms have worked it out everyone has a bad run eg Mark Taylor on an ashes tour slectors stuck with him (admitedly he was capt at the time).

Mal, as for watson batting 4 in test cricket

I agree - keep the same side. But I wouldn't mind betting that MacGill will end-up playing. This dry season means the pitch will be dust in a couple of days. And, as for Peiterson, I think the short square boundaries will tempt him too strongly. Perhaps out LBW hitting across the line?

Gilly will come good. A ton in this test.

What we sometimes forget is that the Australian team already has the best allrounder this generation has seen - Mr Gilchrist!

His batting allows us to play another bowler and still have a very solid and long batting line-up. An allrounder must be able to justify their position on either (or both) of their skills. Look at Botham, Hadlee, Sobers and Flintoff. They all would have made their respective test teams with one of their skills. This should be our selection criterea for selecting an all-rounder. I think Watson could get there with his batting (and his bowling would therfore be a bonus), but I think there are others that deserve a spot first. (Jaques, Hodge, Johnson and Tait for starters.)

Hooray, finally some sense. James Hopes is simply not that good with either bat or ball. Be like me calling myself an allrounder. I can't bat, can't bowl.

Max you are spot on that an allrounder must be able to justify his spot on one his skills and the other is a bonus. You are correct that Watson's bowling is a bonus but i don't think he can justify his spot on his batting. There is no way he is in the top 6 batsmen in Australia.

Cutting it very fine with the finish and start times off the 2, will porbably leave the cricket around an hour and abit early.

England should pick Panesar instead of Giles. Even though giles is batting is better, I think they should make a positive move and a bowler who will look to take wickets.

mally - Haddin could quite easily step up in case of a Gilly injury, doesn't mean we should drop him though. Gilly's recent batting efforts have been below par to be sure but he was a touch unlucky at the Gabba. He'll bounce back.

Watson hasn't come up so no changes for mine. As for Monty, yes bring him in but for Anderson, not Giles.

Be there definately Friday and Monday as well as Sat for teh 1st session, all good, catch up with mates and family, watch the cricket, few quiet waters (that have been flavoured with barley and hops) and listen to the ABC commentary while watching our boys go to town (hopefully) on the POMS....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Good call REB. Giles and Ponty in tandem. These Aussies like the ball coming onto the bat, and Anderson hasn't done enough to warrent his place in the side.

Mal - funny call about Peiterson caught at King William road! Laughs...

I'm not worried about Gilly in the slightest. He still averages more more with the bat than Jones in his last 10 tests (despite his poor form!).

this would be the field setting if Stewie was bowling from the scoreboard end to PIETERSON

1st slip
deep fine leg, next generation gym
deep square leg, north adelaide golf course
deep mid wicket, adelaide entertainment centre[his favourite shot]
deep long on, colonel lights statue
deep long off, pennington terrace
deep extra cover, adelaide childrens hospital
deep point, [hitting mt79 at the canteen]
deep 3rd man, king william street

Macgill is a great leggie, but has an ordinary record at Adelaide oval
and it would be a brave selection to play Stewie and make Brett Lee 12th man.!

Macgill UNFORTUNATELY will be picked to play in adelaide, and as MAL has stated above that is the field setting that would be required.

Macgill struggles here at Adelaide and that was shown in the one-day game and the pura cup game recently held.

MAL, your the FAT ONE, you've always got something in your mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
