Steve Bailey Retires

Postby bloods08 » Wed Feb 24, 2010 8:18 pm

From the members email:

The West Adelaide Football Club is saddened to announce the retirement of Steve Bailey after 40 games with the Club. Steve has decided that due to study and work commitments he is unable to put in the time required to be the elite player that he has been over the past two years.

Andrew Collins said ‘Steve Bailey is one of the reasons why all players have improved their standards that he has helped set.’

Steve Bailey said ‘I would like to thank the West Adelaide Football Club and Andy Collins for giving me the opportunity to continue my career after finishing with the Norwood Football Club. I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment and believe the Club is heading in the right direction and look forward to watching them continuously improve.’

Had his critics as a player, but I always thought Bails was a pretty good bloke, so best of luck to him for the future.

Agree. Everyside does need an outside player such as Bailey, but as a player, he worked extremely hard on the track, and unfortunately it was his time.

Would be good to get mouse back now ;)

well it always amazed me (more so at norwood) that teams didn't respect him enough because countless times i'd say ''who the hell is on bailey ?'' (even at nuetral games i attended) watch the switch to bailey & see norwood go to or beyond half forward, enjoy your retirement mr bailey
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Pity. I always thought you knew your footy, didn't think you were that elitist ;)

Shame Westies haven't got Normo as coach, he'd get the best out of what's left.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Certainly rated him myself and felt he was a bit maligned at times.
Must have had one the biggest engines in the comp as he seemed to be able to go all day.

Very underrated player IMHO and no coincidence that Norwood were worse when he left. A great guy too, met hiim at a Norwood B&F once.
Used to kill North when he played for the legs despite us usually winning, so many North fans would walk away asking me who that blonde guy was that kept getting the ball.
All the best to Steve in his future pursuits.
