That's great for the Panthers, obviosuly an increase in membership on the back of the Fuller appointment...

When I see membership figures at some clubs I wonder how many of those are at all interested in footy and more interested in playing pokies and using other facilities...
Fuller as popular as he is :? wouldnt bring a 33% increase IMO. Probably some other incentives have been thrown into memberships at South.

You don't have to be a member of a club to play the pokies though.
The biggest discrepency with membership numbers is that some club use "complimentary" and "life" memberships in their numbers where others dont.
The totals mean nothing.
The figures in the yearbook showing monies made from membership paint a more accurate picture.
I live in the South Adelaide area and my son's played many years of Panthers football and we haven't heard a thing from anyone at South Adelaide promoting their club since Phil Herden was down there so I'd be very skeptical of that figure and exactly what it entails.

But if they did contact your son, would he/you join up as members?

More chance than if they didn't.

Just to clarify the South increase is based on 2009 membership numbers, mainly on the back on a targeted junior campaign.

This is funny cos I received an email from SAFC yesterday "We Need You" asking me to join up.
I haven't been a member, but did take up an offer of free tickets to a South V Glenelg game last year offerred to SFL clubs. This must have put me on their supporters list.

My guess is that they've tried this in the past (contacting past players regarding memberships and promoting the club etc) but it just hasn't worked. So they've done away with it and hence why your son hasn't heard a thing from them.

IF I was good enough to play SANFL, I would have been in Sturt's area. But I've always been a Port fan. So if I had gone on and played for Sturt, I couldn't see my deep seeded allegiance to Port changing. And after I'd finished at Sturt, I wouldn't be rushing back to support the club. I'd be straight back to Alberton.

See, I would have thought this is a much more successful membership drive. The fact that you actually went to a game as a fan means you're interested in SANFL football. If you happened to be a South fan, this contact could have been a membership sale.

And to clarify a little further, every one of those junior memberships through Auskick is paid for by a sponsor, in memory of a life time South Supporter and Sponsor.

The article clearly says that the promotion is within the Auskick. Anyway, great to have a little Wedgie coming through the panther ranks - what grade is he playing

 Nah Sorry panther. Payments for membership and sponsorship at Flagstaff Hill and Glenelg, plus membership at Footy Park seems to have left my wallett a little empty.
I did post the email so potential South Supporters may take up the offer to become Members though ;)

Not sure that membership reflects performance on the field. At least it gives you a chance of having a team to go out on the field and one thing is for sure, the SANFL and the other 8 sides playing, need that to happen. To not have the maggies and the trip past the cemetry to Alberton would have left a big hole in the comp.

He's 10 and has played every year at school but I might sign him up to the Wineflies this year.
He's the opposite to me when it comes to skills, pace and courage so he should be a superstar!
PS Dont tell Shoeboy he'll be lining up against the Shoes and don't tell Booney he'll be wearing black and white! ;)
