When did the Goolwa/Pt Elliot football club surrender all rights to the Pt Elliot oval LF? I remember "the Saints" used to play 3 or 4 home games a year at Elliot when the clubs first merged.

can anyone from goolwa let me know why the game against the bays in round 5 was cancelled? I heard a whisper it was due to the port elliot cricket club not allowing it? thought port elliot (as a community) would reap the benifets of a game of local footy on a saturday as i am sure it would have had a big crowd.

That is a big part of it. GPE have gone out on a limb to try and embrace their Port Elliot Heritage this year with Club Patron and General Manager of Community Football Glen Rosser at the helm as he played for Port Elliot and his father was a life member.

It's dissappointing that a certain few people in Port Elliot don't want anything to do with the club. The Port Elliot name could be lost forever in the very near future.

There was already a heritage guernsey designed that looked amazing, many local Port Elliot businesses had jumped on board to sponsor the club and in particular the match in Port Elliot but unfortunately there are too many d*cks still around Elliot.

The match will revert back to Goolwa oval and it is still undecided whether the heritage guernsey will be worn.

Glen Rosser has learnt first hand about the lack of support from the Port Elliot community towards their club.

damian what you need to remember is the world doesnt revolve around footy. i know how much effort truck, cockles, tubby, gav smith and co put into the elliot oval during cricket season to get the oval to look like a bowling green. if they dont want it ploughed up by a one off footy game after all the hours of work they put into the oval over the summer then i think thats more than satisfactory.

i know how many hours of work it takes to get our turf wicket back up to scratch after footy. if we had the choice of no footy on the oval we would take it too. but we dont have the option.

Gee Mr Chee Quee you are quite silly. It is a community oval, it is used by soccer all winter, i'm no expert but i am pretty sure they wear spriggs, do they not?? The majority of the Port Elliot community want this game to go ahead but due to poor attitudes of a select few it will not be. The oval committee need to have a good think about the future of Port Elliot, and not just their own little world.

Not sure the year. I think we played there in 2001/02 but gave up the right to play there after the council offered the club a deal to wipe out Port Elliots debt. It was a large debt that we had taken on so it was a deal that was too good to refuse and at that time I think there was only 2 or 3 senior players from elliot. That gave the "breakers" scope to set up soccer during the winter months.

A condition of the game being played at Port Elliot was that it would have to be Sunday. Not because soccer is normally played there on Saturdays, but so Port Elliot Netball Club could attend. It was felt that it would not be right to ask Encounter Bay to play on the Sunday, especially considering it is Mothers day.

I quote, "We would not support a game earlier this year, or in the future, that required a core oval tenant to relocate any of it's games i.e NOT on a Saturday"

Netball is programmed away, there is no cricket and soccer are willing to have their senior matches programmed away and have the juniors moved to another venue, possibly Goolwa oval. (They have junior games from 9-12:30 every Saturday except school holidays). GPEFC were happy to compensate the 'Breakers' for this.

The Soccer club seems to have been the most accommodating, yet they would be affected the most.

The netball club got their nickers in a knot becuase they were programmed to play at Yankalilla so wouldn't be there for the match.

The pitch needed to be covered, no problem there, but no vehicles are allowed on oval meaning this must all be done by hand. This is due to irrigation, fair enough again?? How do they mow the oval?? I was there having a kick Saturday morning as the tractor went around.

It's just really petty stuff by the committee which is chaired by Gav Smith.

The Port Elliot community was set to benefit from this with what yout hink would be a 500+ crowd (easily i think, probably closer to a 1000) in Port Elliot visiting the bakery, fish and chip shops, cafes, pubs etc plus a function that was to be held at the Port Elliot Life Saving Club Saturday night to make money for the importance cause of saving lives at the beach. As i had stated before, there was already sponsors from Port Elliot for the one off match, plus full time sponsors of the club that this day was going to be special for.

Very disappointing for not only the GPEFC, loyal supporters from Port Elliot and the Port Elliot community but i think for the whole GSFL.

I wouldnt want to be sitting in one of the local Elliot pubs having a beer at the moment if I was on that oval committee, I recon you would be hard pressed getting served let alone the spray 99.9% of locals would give you!!

So maybe the merger didn't go as smoothly as it should have, but it is a new committee that is working its ass off to try and incorporate the Port Elliot community, you old fellas, either get of the committees or do what is right for the town, not for your pride!!

Remember guys that the new board rules aren't compulsary for a league to take on until 2012, therefore & just guessing here, the GSFL may be still running by their own laws for 2010 & 2011

The GSFL is pretty well run SB. Both Herman Lucas and Gordon Tonkin who have presided over the GSFL over recent years, should be proud of the state of the GSFL. To get in excess of 5,500 people at McLaren's on Grand Final Day is testament to the compettition.
Where the CFB takes SA Football....anyone's guess. What I do know is, that centrally run organisations are certainly over-running the Independant operators...in food, liquor, petrol, hardware, clothing etc. It is not surprising that the AFL through the SANFL want to pull everything under one admin umbrella.

PS It is just a point you should know SB.Of the first four founding clubs of the SFL three of those are in the GSFL...McLaren, Sellicks and Willunga. The one left in the SFL is Aldinga.

Now who is better the SFL or the GSFL... IS TOO HOT TO HANDLE

The GSFL has 10 relatively competitive clubs that play each other once at home, once away. All clubs field teams in all junior grades and each club's teams all play at the same oval on the same day. It's the perfect comp. The SFL can only dream of being like the GSFL!!

Its only natural to want to join a comp that is so well run and organised and for the most part is very even.. After playin in the SFL myself, i have to agree that that the GSFL is the premier country league from my experience.. havent played in any other country leagues tho admittedly...

We all know that McLaren leaving or Willunga folding won't happen. Looks as if you are stuck in the SFL , Shoe Boy.

If You join Community Footy ....some extra $ for Aldinga for 3 years and then they will be the powerhouse club of the MCFL

No need to go down the hill, Reynella and M/Vale still at it, Reynella to lose in Sept still. Hackham and OSB/Lonsdale are unfortunately unsustainable.
Under no conditions will a side from Seaford/Rise/Meadows/Heights/Hills to be admitted
