And to think how much the Glenelg fans over on the "Snouts" forum pride themselves on not stooping to the level of other clubs supporters e.g. North (who they always reference) when there is some drama at their club. Couple this topic with their straight sets exit from last years finals and they are no better or worse than any other emotive group of SANFL supporters even if they don't think they are hypocrites!

Nothing suprising there, supporter groups essentially are all the same, just like the human race we are all different and have different opinions....so what? :? do you want us to come out with a media release detailing a united message and then all of us to stand by it? Delusional at best....

You're actually agreeing with him Dutchy, his point is aimed at the delusional ones who think they're different.
Just for the record I admire people like Milbo and those willing to look at both point of views, it's those sort of people players play for, not the ones who turn on them in seconds. It's people like this that improve the club IMHO with the mindless sheep that just tow the company line send clubs backwards. Not saying there are any on here, just making a hypothetical point that may or may not be in existence.

Doggies supporters must all be delusional - I haven't met one yet who doesn't agree that we are doing well :?

I thought we considered ourselves to be playing "quite well" :)

MEMBER WEB RELEASE - BRETT BACKWELL
Prior to preseason training commencing Brett explained that his business operation was too busy for him to attend training with Glenelg Football Club prior to Christmas. He also explained that he had the opportunity toplay some games for the Waratahs in the NTFL.

I gave permission for Brett to play 3 games for the Waratahs before Christmas and then Brett was to return to full time training with Glenelg Football Club post Christmas. Brett played 2 games for the Waratahs before Christmas and resumed full time training with Glenelg Football Club after Christmas.

On Friday February 5th Ken Applegarth (Football Manager) was alerted to the fact that Brett had played an additional two games for the Waratahs through January. Ken phoned me and advised me of this information. After approximately 3 days Brett returned my call.

After I returned from leave Ken Applegarth , Steve Barratt (CEO) and I met with Brett at the GFC on Monday February 15th. We explained to Brett that we were disappointed that he had played 2 extra games with the Waratahs after Christmas with no approval from the Glenelg Football Club. Brett explained that he still had a desire to play for the Waratahs and that he wanted to play for Glenelg also.

I made it clear that no further permission from Glenelg Football Club would be granted to Brett to play further games with the Waratahs and that Brett needed to decide what he wanted to do. It was made clear that there was still the opportunity for Brett to continue playing for Glenelg Football Club and to do that we needed a full commitment from him and that meant no more games for Waratahs and full training with Glenelg.

I made it clear to Brett that if he chose to play more games with the Waratahs he could not continue to train or play with Glenelg. I asked Brett to call me the next day (Tuesday Feb 16th) with a decision. Brett called back on Tuesday stating that he had chosen to play for the Waratahs. He understood that by making this decision he was no longer able to continue training or playing with Glenelg.

Well in my opinion what a ridiculous decision.

So Backwell resumed full pre-season training and to quote some bays fans was reportedly burning up the track. He was suppose to play 3 games in the NT but played 4.

His playing in the NT had not effected his pre-season in anyway as the only way the club was even aware was by a tip off. So you sacked probably your best player for the last decade who is an aussie rules footballer. For essentially playing aussie rules football. Stupid ???

I know Bays fans are the masters of defending every decision their club makes. But please do me a favour and leave Centrals out of your ridiculous justification.I understand we are the pinnacle and all. But if you honestly think not one CDFC players doesnnt play some sourt of sport on the weekend due to its a club rule your are delluded. I know doggies players that play cricket, soccer, touch football, gaelic football on the weekends. The club doesnt stop it and yes you can get injuries playing those sports.

Doesnt a bays supporter play cricket with boys from Sturt on weekends ??? Why doesnt Sturt sack them, there is no guarantee they wont get injured playing cricket.

Ridiculous decision and is there any bays fans offering bets they will make the top 3 any more ???

Can we have an update as to how many players are out of the qualifying final side now ???

LOL, as I said in another post, go your hardest, post whatever you want, that's what these forums are for.

Also it shouldn't be a crime to defend your club as a few of us are doing.

At the end of the day we can all speculate what he or she said but the eventual outcomes will be decided on the on-field results in 2010 and beyond.

I see no reason to expect anything other than a very strong assault on the flag by the Bays ... if others don't then fair enough.

Let's revisit all this at 5pm on Oct 3.

LOL, maybe some people have a slightly busted piss-o-meter ... the Bays haven't delivered results where they should have on the field and they're fair game ... no issue from me about that.

But then for some to then claim the high moral ground when some return fire could be considered a tad precious as well.

We're all big boys (and girls) so keep the banter going ...

Not offering a wager, but I reckon Glenelg will finish top 3. Feel free to bump this in September should I be proven wrong.

I've heard he has been recovering from an injury from some people and others say he was burning up the track, either way he went behind the clubs back and ignored the clubs agreement with him, if he was up front with them maybe it would've been a different story. He also had a choice and in the end if he was committed to us he would've stayed. It's just a pitty that we left it soo late and we can't get a replacement for him. Everyone is entitled to there opinion but the way he went about it is the big thing for me. You have to respect the club and the standards we have otherwise don't commit, i think it's got a bit to do with the fact he was on a reduced contract i don't think he would pull this bullshit if he was on what he was on last year. People that just think of themselves and whats good for them will get you knowhere. It's a team game we play.

WARATAHS' immediate NTFL finals future is Brett Backwell's only concern.

That was evident at TIO Stadium last night with the star midfielder putting a turbulent week - which saw him sever ties with SANFL club Glenelg - behind him by helping Tahs negotiate safe passage past Palmerston in the elimination final.

Backwell's refusal to leave Tahs on the eve of the finals series for pre-season training in Adelaide states a clear intention by the former Carlton AFL listed player that he is determined to put an end to a personal 14-year premiership drought.

Asked if the win vindicated his decision, Backwell answered: "That was just a great win.

"It's not just about me, it was about the 22 blokes running around out there."

Backwell made his decision to leave Glenelg - a club he served for eight years, winning the 2006 Magarey Medal - on Tuesday and sought solitude in the Top End. Five days to reflect and refocus proved wonders.

"It has been a pretty tough week, a lot of drama going on," Backwell said.

"I came up to Darwin a few days early, turned the phone off and tried to escape a little."

While one of the hottest questions in Territory football and the SANFL is which club the 29-year-old will line up for next, it was the furthest thing from his mind after downing the Magpies to earn a semi-final berth.

"I've got no idea, I haven't spoken to anyone," Backwell said when asked if he would consider playing for NT Thunder.

Instead, all his energy will go into seeing out the next three weeks with Tahs to try to add to his solitary senior premiership won as a 15-year-old playing for the Hervey Bay Bombers in AFL Bundaberg-Wide Bay.

"We have three games to go and have to keep winning," he said. "And each week we are going to get better. There are still a lot of guys getting used to each other and the more they do the better we will play."
