MST wrote:It's official, Glenelg supporters are the biggest sunshiners going around. How you can possibly put a positive spin on this is beyond me. I am all for clubs maintaining standards, but FFS the lad wanted to play one more game in the top end before returning match fit and focused on Glenelg. There is a pretty hefty intangeable called 'morale' and this decision must surely put another dent in what is already a questionable atmosphere at the Bay.

Sturt set high standards for training and committment but if they were as rigid as the hierarchy at Brighton Road then the likes of Brant Chambers would have been sacked years ago. He, for example, has gone up North for work and footy almost annually over his Sturt career. Yes, he comes back a little late BUT he comes back fit and hungry. He is made to catch up and complete set training standards which he is happy to do.

Get your heads out of the sand boys, if all is really well at the Bay then I'm a Chinaman.

Lets get this straight, it wasnt Mickan or GFC's final decision, it was Mouse's - he made the final choice....

Im hearing the leadership group havd a huge say in this also, which makes me even more comfortable with the decision...

Big loss for the Bays imo. They had him signed to a supposedly very cheap contract, he would be ready for Round 1 match fit, can't really see what their issue is. Whether they are trying to make a stand or not I can't see how they will benefit from it. I think Mickan is a moron and I can't see him winning a flag as a coach of the Bays. Backwell can move on to greener pastures now and with a bit of luck will win a flag somewhere regardless of what level it is at, hopefully still at league level.

I think he was referring to the so called stories you mention about the money Backwell was wanting each season.

Be a higher standard than training at Westminster school 3 days a week. A bloke of his age and achievements should be given consideration. Anyway it's done all the best for mouse, good bloke and very good player

Umm, no it wouldn't - this from someone who's watched NTFL since 1983-84. Turnover, turnover, turnover footy with no defensive action.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
