I wouldnt like to be the president or coach of victor, a lot of pressure on these blokes to perform and deliver. Personally I couldnt handle the stress. Just had a call from a regular poster on the forum who tells me that Whatman is playing for free. Bloody good effort to get an AFL Canberra player without forking out a single cent. Congrats to their recruiting team for that.

If thats the case then great work to the Victor board and the connection to him, Victor have drawn a few local A graders from other GSFL clubs to come play B grade with them this year also as they like the way things and people are around the club.

Good to see Victor give their juniors a chance to play at the highest level then.Bringing in B Grade players doesn`t help that situation.

THIS IS AN INTERESTING POINT.....HOW MANY PLAYERS HAVE LEFT THEIR "HOME" CLUBS TO PURSUE SUCCESS IN THE FORM OF A PREMIERSHIP AND SUCCEDED? AT GOOLWA I CAN NOT THINK OF ONE SINGLE PLAYER (EG JUREK, MCKINLAY BOYS, ROSS CAMPBELL, THE GUYS THAT WENT TO CALLINGTON ETC ETC). PORTLOCK IS PROBABLY ONE EXAMPLE IN THE GSFL. STAYING HOME COULD BE THE ANSWER......

Jay Allen left Willunga after 2002, after not being able to get a run on the ball. Went back to his home club McLaren, and went on to win the flag & the B&F & BOG in the GF in 2003.

AWESOME effort!!!!

So looking at the points system:
Matthew Graham (SANFL) 4 points
Aleks Iljcesen (SANFL) 4 points
Denis Iljcesen (SANFL) 4 points
Luke Whatman (AFL Canberra) At least 3 points
Add in the rest of the recruits, are they going to be playing with 15 blokes on game day???
The only time i've ever been wrong...was when I thought I was wrong!!!

I think Dennis Iljecsen was registered with Victor last year, so that would be one less point.

Aleks hasnt played SANFL, T.Boyd, D.Iljcesen were registered last year so will be 1 point less, M.Graham will probably be signed this year for 2011 or 2012 as he is still at Glenelg- (last time I heard) L.Saunders 0 points.L.Ryan cleared from M/Vale a few years ago so 0 points also. So probably some smart registering of players for sign on fees done in past years down at Roo Land paying off now.

Brings up the point about registering players for point reductions rather than having to play for the club to get a reduction

I noticed on the Clearances list for the GSFL that Glenelg have "denied" his clearance, and the same for Adam Basir who i think also is from Glenelg.

Basir is from Glenelg, premiership player i believe, where is he supposed to be going? Played a number of games for Cove this year i think. Also what is the go with clearances from SANFL over the local club? If Basir played for Cove last year as well as Bays wouldnt Cove need to clear him?

Lot of mention of strong teams like Victor,Willunga,Strath picking up players on the clearance page of the GSFL website, what about teams like McLaren and Goolwa. If these teams don`t start to gain players pretty soon I recond they are in for a long year.
Myponga seem to have added to their list and should be more competitive and Yank and Encounter Bay have picked up some handy recruits going by what has been written on the forum. Would be interested to know the thoughts of Yetti and Luvsfooty regarding this topic. Have the Creek kept most of their big name players from last season and have they secured any new names.

I think we will be similar to last year....Lost Stephen White which is a big loss but have generally maintained the current list while adding a few guys. The guys we have added are not big name superstars but will be good contibutors. A few returning locals who at their best are good A Graders, but nothing to write home about. Still a couple of good ones in the pipeline, 2 in particular we are in talks with at the moment will be great players and will probably draw 10,000 to Goolwa Oval for round 1 but this is a long way off of being concrete. Like most bottom 5 clubs, I think its pretty hard to make in roads on the top 5. We are cashed up with sponsor ship looking like increasing by about 50%, we have close to 30 senior colts and a solid committee but for us I dont know if the "big spend" is the way to for us. We could quite easily spend 3-4k a week and still be outside the top 3. At this stage a lot like last year we could be anywhere from 5th - 10th.

McLaren are training Monday and Wednesday at the Oval. A few new faces, and all the young kids from last year.
