I couldn't DISAGREE MORE !!

Part of the problem up until 2006 was the 'separate' groups of supporters.
This is a NEW club, NOT the club I played Juniors at & supported from 4 yrs of age!!!

Try telling Fitzroy Fans that 'Brisbane' has claims on Fitzroy's VFL Flags!!

IMHO... merger MUST be the last resort.
I love my club... proud, passionate & PAID UP, but...
it isn't & never will be West Torrens... that club died in 1990, ironically the same year that PORT started the whole mess - that is the Financial State of Footy in SA.

Regardless of who you follow, it IS & ALWAYS HAS BEEN, Port or Not.

The comment above by the 2 Port supporters "What if it was West or South?", sums it up for them & the rest of us. They are Pro & we are Con... it will never change because that is the true HISTORY of footy in this state. :?

PAFC has 34 Flags, PAMFC has 2... West Torrens has 4, Woodville has none, Woodville-West Torrens has 2.

Spot on LEH
I had a "PORT" Supporter at work go ape when he thought the Magpies were gone.He wants the SANFL to fall over etc etc.
And he hasn't been to a Magpies game in many many years .

I certainly understand where you're coming from. The two situations are different, in one you had PAFC split into two separate clubs, so both originated from the 1870 club and therefore I don't see any problem with either club accessing the roots from which they were born. Its an undisputed fact that both clubs come from that 1870 original, creating a new legal identity as they did with PAMFC doesn't erase what happened in actuality and that is that the club split to compete in both leagues.

WRT the WWT experiment. As stated above, I understand where you're coming from. From my perspective Woodville was the club that died and we were left with West Torrens only. They walk, talk and act like an Eagle in my mind, there's nothing Woodpecker or Warrior about them. I won't say they're 100% Torrens, but I would be happy to go out on a limb and say that most SANFL fans would agree that WWT DNA is by and large mostly Torrens and that its Woodville who were disolved.

That said, I definitely would submit to the idea that a merger does allow for the possibility of both clubs, both sets of fans, to feel the new club is exactly that, a new club and therefore may have to forgo its history.

The same goes for takeovers, like Brisbane of Fitzroy, the club is Brisbane, no doubt about that, Fitzroy were just a quick meal along the way to creating a stronger Brisbane side.

I still stick by my point on Port Adelaide though. Both clubs were spawned from the 1870 club and I really don't see why people would mind either club accessing that history. If Sturt joined the AFL and replaced Carlton as the Blues <to dream> then my expectation is that both the AFL and SANFL clubs would access that 100+ year history, there's no way I'd accept that the SANFL side hadn't won 13 flags and likewise I'd expect the AFL club to glorify our 13 flags and 1960s/1970s dominance as part of its player indoctrination.

Now that raises a sticky question .West Torrens sprung from Port Natives.Players that left for whatever reasons the original Port Adelaide.
Does that mean that West Torrens history goes back to 1870 ?

Yes, and I'd join the march to save the Port Natives - or West Torrens... :D

Unless you're a Scientologist... then I think you're some sorta alien species that is just being hosted by a human body or something.

I don't think L. Ron Hubbard really knew himself.
I tried reading his book on "Dianetics" many years ago, but it wasn't all that coherent - it displayed the same type of thought disorder as is apparent in "The Book of Mormon".
There are only a few books I have started reading and never finished, and that's two of them...
