Good luck Port Magpies.

I am sure your club will work it out and find the bussiness plan that will allow you to survive throught this century.

Bussiness is hard. But a profit must show.

Dog_ger will even buy a membership if it means your survival. :partyman:

We learnt our lesson with the exit of West Torrens.

All "SANFL TRUE FANS" should never allow this again.

That was a mistake we all hang our heads in shame.
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

Wonder where that couple have been the last 20 years. I'll bet bathed in Teal

Bandwagoning on an immense scale is needed for this one !

i find it amazing in the advertisements they say 34 premierships, 140 years of history etc

but i thought it was the Port Adelaide that had that heritage that went into the AFL and thus the current magpies only have a very limited history of 13/14 years

Spot On Might Tiger 79 !

There has been quite a lot of venom spat at the SANFL for not bailing them out, we're the enemy, and saying that the SANFL has deserted them. I thought it was the other way around. Also that SANFL clubs are holding a 20 year grudge ? Where was the media outcry when Woodville had to merge with West Torrens. Something that I was strongly against. I'm sure that most Eagles fans would have preferred to keep their clubs as separate entities. Also Triple MMM with their " Save the Magpies " campaign is a beauty. Perhaps Kym Dillon should have put a campaign together when his beloved West Torrens had to fold.

Lastly....I asked 2 Port mad friends of mine a question yesterday. " What if it were South or West that were in this financial position "....Their answers were the same....." Who cares about them.....this is PORT we are talking about ".....? A very Portonian answer. However both left the Maggies when the Power came in, don't follow them, don't go to games, aren't members etc etc.

Unity has been absent from the PAFC manifesto for many years. All I am concerned about is the survival and prosperity of the SANFL, and if we aren't all on the same page, strong and united, then things are going to change.

We should try to get the heritage debate it into every single thread about Port Adelaide I reckon. It just doesn't get the attention I think it deserves.

I tend to think people just want to moan about the heritage thing because they want an opportunity to throw some mud at Port Adelaide. From my perspective, both Port Adelaide clubs have the right to access that same history and promote themselves using that same history. I don't believe the history is exclusive to one club over the other, both clubs are related to the club that began in 1870.

Creating new legal identities and emblems and so on doesn't change anything. WWT can access the combined history of both their clubs, that's fair game, Torrens has 6 premierships, not just 2. Anyone who argues otherwise I think is just point scoring for some other hidden (or not so hidden) agenda. Port Adelaide's heritage is clear to me, the club simply made an error in judgement trying to please others.

Port in the AFL should not be trying to be a second Crows. It should be promoting its Magpie heritage and to the hell with anyone who doesn't like that. The only people who would be against that, are SANFL veterans, that breed is dying out, some 8 year old who goes to Torrens Primary wouldn't know what a SANFL Magpie v Blues or Tigers rivalry is, all they care about is whether the Power wins, as winners get fans.

Port need to be saved in the SANFL simply because the league is worth a lot less without them IMHO.

Great post CSBowes .... as usual I might add

If my mates are any guide then the next generation of footy supporters just don't care as much about the history of Port Adelaide hatred as our generation (those around in 1990) do. For new kids coming through, Port Adelaide offer a clear alternative to the Crows unlike some hypothetical Crows Mark II would.

Another successful era like 2001-2004 and they will get a lot of new fans on board.

I have die hard Port people with kids who barrack for the Crows and vice versa. Who follows what their parents tell them anyway?!

So can we all add the Crows 2 Premierships to our lists. That would make some of us happy. Makes our lowly figures look just that little bit better  I disagree that 2 clubs can have the same access to the same history. If Port Power are the REAL Port, then it has it's right to claim it's Magpie heritage etc etc. Their problem was that they wanted to enter the VFL ( AFL ) wearing their black and white colours and call themselves the Magpies. Something that Victorians over here laugh hilariously about. If that is indeed the case, the PAMFC is purely a new club that wears an old style jumper ( as Port Districts and North Haven ( aka Taperoo F.C ) have done in the past.

I couldn't DISAGREE MORE !!

Part of the problem up until 2006 was the 'separate' groups of supporters.
This is a NEW club, NOT the club I played Juniors at & supported from 4 yrs of age!!!

Try telling Fitzroy Fans that 'Brisbane' has claims on Fitzroy's VFL Flags!!

IMHO... merger MUST be the last resort.
I love my club... proud, passionate & PAID UP, but...
it isn't & never will be West Torrens... that club died in 1990, ironically the same year that PORT started the whole mess - that is the Financial State of Footy in SA.

Regardless of who you follow, it IS & ALWAYS HAS BEEN, Port or Not.

The comment above by the 2 Port supporters "What if it was West or South?", sums it up for them & the rest of us. They are Pro & we are Con... it will never change because that is the true HISTORY of footy in this state. :?

PAFC has 34 Flags, PAMFC has 2... West Torrens has 4, Woodville has none, Woodville-West Torrens has 2.
