IMO - this was the biggest positive from last night's meeting.

It would be fantastic to see night footy at Alberton, and a huge profit booster too.

Don't we take a big enough risk parking there in broad daylight ?
The Maggies new sponsor obviously isn't a car insurance company.

That's funny - the only time I've ever felt unsafe walking back to my car after a game was at the Parade, when Brian Beinke kicked that goal on the siren.

Thanks for the reminder!

I was a little disappointed looking through the fixtures this year to only see 3 night games for the Magpies. But Round 5 on ANZAC Day is going to be an absolute screamer at the Parade. Cannot wait!!!

Looks like the SANFL is becoming a night competition.

Richmond, Thebarton, Norwood, Elizabeth.

Glenelg and Alberton next.

Prospect, Unley and Noarlunga to follow?

Being realistic here but with the future of the Magpies uncertain at best how could any responsible council commit funds to erecting light towers for a club thaat may not exist by the time the lights are functional? It might seem like a good idea but surely it makes no real sense from a council budgeting sense. Sorrry to be a wwet blanket but i'm just interested in the thoughts of rate payers in the area.

If the Magies fold the Power could play night games there, they might nearly fill Alberton.

Unfortunately I won't be holding my breath for the lights at the Bay in the immediate future.
It appears finances to pay for the lights, plus the requirements to upgrade facilities that go along with hosting night games are outside the Holdfast Council & Glenelg FC capabilities in the immediate future. GFC Pres keeps trying, but the brick walls keep standing firm.

GFC Website has added a Oval Facility Upgrade Document Friday which gives an overall view of everything about the club, and GFC aspirations in this area.

Quoted from this document:
"The facilities need an upgrade!
• Major Lighting Upgrade
For many years night football has been talked about at Glenelg. Most Football fans are very keen for this to occur and recent history from other grounds suggest that crowds will increase to over 6,000 fans on a regular basis. A lighting upgrade of the oval will allow other local Clubs and community groups to utilise the oval during alternative times. The cost of this project is approx. $450,000

• Change Room & Gym Facilities
The current change rooms and gymnasium at Glenelg are inadequate and are far from what could be referenced to as a centre for excellence. The Club would like to upgrade the existing change rooms & gym to provide a facility that reflects the level of professionalism that is required for competition in the SANFL.
It is anticipated that a cost of over $50,000 will be needed to achieve this result.
Funding
In order to complete all projects the Club will need to raise over $500,000.
The Club is hopeful of achieving all projects in the next two years through funding from the following areas:
• Australian Government
• Australian Football League
• South Australian National Football League
• City of Holdfast Bay Council
• Glenelg Football Club
• Donations from supporters

The two night games that were to be scheduled for Thebby this year are now being played as day games at Fortress Woodville as the lights will not be ready for the 2010 season.
