What an interesting choice of holiday destination - Senegal and Mali in particular. Can I ask, what made you chose Mali for a holiday?

I'd like to check out Senegal and various other points on the West coast of Africa one day, but I doubt I have the bollox to get over there TBH. Morocco was far enough for me I think.

Always wanted to backpack independently through Africa, it's West seems to offer a good mix of climate and cultures. Made it a goal to overland (apart from the Spain/Morocco ferry) from Rome to Lome (Togo). Mali was just a destination en route (taking the coast the whole way, through Guinea and Liberia, poses a few more risks and hassles) and is actually a really popular country with Europeans taking package tours to see it's major attractions.

Currently in Accra, helping the Ghanaians drown their sorrows

Wouldn't say it takes bollox to travel through here, just a lot of patience and a touch of vigilance. The only real danger is when you put your life in the hands of a maniacal bush-taxi driver flogging it along pot-holed dirt roads in a vehicle long past it's use-by-date

Haha, nice one! I certainly agree that avoiding Guinea and Liberia is a wise decision.

I met a few Ghanaians in London - great bunch of people generally and they can cook a mean stew. What do they think about coming up against us in the world cup? Pretty happy about it I'd have thought.
