By meaning volunteering do you mean for free but we all know you cannot run a club for free and if you then cover their Admin costs we are back to one of the biggest sticking point negatives re the merger proposal. The 8 other clubs re the Merger was that any money forwarded to the Power from the SANFL as budgeted for in the next two years would also be used to fund the Magpies if it was to be one club so essentially the SANFL would be funding it in any case. No other club gets that sort of help or was offfered in the past so why should the Magpies.

Yeah I know mate, I was aware of the conflict and issue attached to it when I posted ... I know it doesn't resolve any of those other issues, but it does a) offer a better help to an ailing club than a handout that could be misused and b) creates a path for the SANFL to assist others in the future.

Whilst Woodville, Torrens, North, Sturt and Norwood didn't receive that help, that time will have to come where there is an end to clubs being refused assistance because others before them weren't helped ... Because, other clubs into the future are going to need help also.

Not suggesting it's a perfect solution (or perhaps even close) but trying to come up with some sort of idea that could potentially be of help to the Maggies now and others into the future.

thats exactly what i was thinking when i posted. creating a path so in future if this happens there wont be this bs again. its not ideal since it wasnt offered to other clubs in the past but if they come out and said help would be offered to all clubs in the future, id take that.why didnt they help the other clubs when they needed it in the first place ?

Interesting to listen to all the news reports saying that a 140 year old club is going under...I thought Port Power were the 140 year old club? :?

Seems they can chop and change who has that history to suit them...

It's strange how they've swung around again. Just read a thread on TPFP where staff at the club are saying outright that the Power are a new entity.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

The Magpies' official website's homepage also states that they have 140 years of history. :?

Well there you go! A Ready-made fundraiser.
Rucci V Cahill - The Great Debate on who really holds the 140 years of history ;)
Hold it at the POW. Could either be a dinner or BBQ style function (whichever suits the demographics to sell the most tickets) But DONT have it at Alberton else PAM won't get the $$$.
Could either be a fun evening, or serious - again suit it to the demographic. But either way would be a great money spinner, and would certainly get people talking and the emotions going

There is a term for it......................it's known as "applied confusion" which means you can use it at any time, for any reason, and for either club.

If it was that easy to raise $500,000 from your members every club would be doing it. Pass the hat around at a sold out Crows game and divide that by 8 and hand it to the 8 clubs too? Unfortunately, a chunk of those same Power members want the PAM gone anyway.

Sure, if Power members fork over a collective $500K each year on top of existing contributions everything's great!

But, in the real world, you could maybe scrounge $100K once ... maybe $50K the next time ... slowly it dies off.

I agree with some of the sentiment. However the edge the Magpies have is a majority would be Magpies supporters. And now they have revealed how desperate their position is. People are more likely to donate in extreme cases rather than just generally.
Despite some postings $500,000 clearly would make a difference as they currently have $750,000 debt. Now the club is talking about requiring $500,000.
I thought what was evident from the Firth interview was as expected their position isn't as dire as we've been led to believe. They hadn't investigated a JV with the Power. It seems like the Powers main concern was getting over the pokies license and contained tax benefits.
The vote wasn't on removing the Magpies from the SANFL it was about an SANFL club not been able to merge with an AFL club. Especially if the numbers don't add up. They have received a number of other offers and proposals regarding the POW which they are now investigating.

Here's clarification that the Power and the Magpies both share the history of Port Adelaide:
