Is the Bays' result really all that surprising? Didn't have the expense of clubroom renovations this year, nor did they have the resulting interruption to their income stream (pokies).

Not surprised at the improved performace for the reasons listed above was always expecting a turn around compared to 2008. What was surprising was the size of the turnaround given that compared to 2007 we lost almost $400 K in income due to the renovations, to make an extra $100 000 on top of the turnaround is the pleasing part. All this on top of a $70 000 drop in bar takings comapred to 2008 as a result of reduced crowds - no 12 000 crowd where our turnover was over $100 000 on a single day in 2008.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The doggies have both a Football and a Footballers club (I suppose most clubs would set up like this) and the combined result was a profit of about $50,000.

Turnaround from 2008 approx $400,000.

Great turnaround for the club, and looks to be some good plans in place to continue the good results over the next few years with the strategic plan in the back of the annual report.
Trust the process.

What was last year's d4eva? I recall reading it was about the same.

This leads to my question which is not a troll, just so I understand the facts ... did the alleged $1m profit in 1 year ever happen? Or was the $1m profit just something I thought I heard?

In the current environment, a profit of $50K 2 years running is a great result BTW.

The bloods had a turnaround of about 530K. Still a slight loss IIRC but a major improvement on the previous year. Things are looking up both on and off the field for the bloods finally.

Who wrote the article last year to support their opinion saying how SANFL clubs weren't viable based on one years figures which had a lot of abnormal expenses? Can we expect an article this year saying the opposite? I doubt it.

Big improvement from the previous year and with Kym Russell having a full finacial year at the club (he only started January last year) I suspect the result will be even better. Not to mention that our on field results will be even better this year with our first finals appearance in years :D

Careful, the numnut will use it (SANFL clubs improved fiancial performance) to justify a reduced SANFL dividend to the state league clubs and more money to be directed...

So in summary, you lost around $100k and finished well outside the finals, yet class it as a great year? :-k

No. In summary, we managed a turnaround of $570,000, finished one place outside the finals, and no one has classed it as a great year.
