Pretty sure he is only 26/27 years old so if he is past his best at that age then what hope do all the other players in the amatuer league over the ago of 27 have

Not sure that was the question
He's carrying nearly as much pud as I am and has played his best footy. Worth a spot but nowhere near as quick nowadays and I reckon he's closer to 30 than 26.
I stand corrected on the age bit
sorry Ace no one playing footy is remotely near your pud 8)
That statement could be costly in the long run EM.......................................but you're probably correct, although I did watch a GF involving Paralowie and there were a couple that may have come very close... ;)

Perry getting married at end of year overseas and wanted some cash, Smart over 30 so i think they all have the right to leave and if a club is prepared to pay them so be it.

I think they will really struggle and if they treated there loyal players right they might not be in the crap they are now.
If they have a bad year Rick will be gone.

Fill us in 1Eyed, what didn't the club do for their loyal players?
I bet your a real critic of Pearce, you sound like it.
If they have a bad year, which no-doubt they will, you honestly think they'll turf Ricky?
With alot of young players only to work with what does the club expect?
You obviously don't have a plan in place for the future.
You sound like the players ( you probably are one ) always looking for someone else to blame when when your not getting your own way.

It comes as no surprise that the body count at port districts is still climbing if this is supposed to be a supporters thread.

im not a player but you are right i dont rate Rick as a coach at all.
Cant back the youngsters in when they dont have any decent one's.
Madds got shafted as captain 2 years ago, hardly got any game time last year even when they have no tall defenders. Smitham was regulalry in Best players playing in the middle, got a BOG and wasnt seen again in the middle after about round 9. JOKE. Perry shouldve been captain as he was told, and all of a sudden he wasnt.

The club needs to get their act together or people will keep leaving, good people. Just like u poached Muscara NO MERCY, he never got a look in to play A's which is another joke, he might have had a few injuries but is a class player and great clubman.
I hope he does well for u, i might come and watch him play if u give him a game!

like always the coach gets the blame when things dont go the way it was planned.
when will the clubs(not only port)committees start to take the blame for their discions.they are the ones who select coaches and sign the cheques for their recruits.they are the ones who set the standards of the culture, discipline and ethics of a club by their descions.
you can bet they will protect their own positions and blame everyone else.they are the ones who set the agendas and the focus of the club so they should look at themselves before blaming anyone else.as for ricky, great person, great father and a great coachwho is rated very highly by people who know abit.give him the support and time he needs and he will prove it.

Thats old new about Gates! he went back to districts trained a few times and left. Oh another good player gone.
And yes i agree with Dee man or whatever his name is.....the board of districts have a lot to answer too. We'll see what happens this year, bet they still wont get the cheque book out. And U/18 level is way off that of Div 1 A grade, even tho they won the premiership i bet not many of those kids play A grade.

If thats old news ( Gates ) why hasn't it been posted?
I think the board have more to answer for than Ricky 1Eyed.
You should get off his ( Ricky's ) back & support him rather than backstab him.

That's when they started winning, just a coincidence maybe.

1Eyed was on here around the same time last year shit-canning the coach and coaching staff, maybe he/she should take their views to the Riverland thread as they obviously have a soft spot for Smitham

Well said Deeman....a lot of clubs need to look after their juniors and get them coming through the ranks....they will be the loyal ones, not the ones asking massive $$$ to come out for a year and be the first to jump ship when any signs of trouble comes up!!

How about looking at this with a bit of perspective?

Smart, Smitham, Maddern and Perry have all played over 100 A Grade games for PDFC and served our club with distiction, with all except Smart winning a B&F (Smart was robbed in 2008, by Gates).
They are hardly fly-by-night types of players, but there comes a time when you have to look at whats best for yourself and family.
To call these guys mercineries is just plain wrong. They were all at the club when we lost a Grand Final in 2003 and also when we were relegated in 2006. Hanging around at a club during the rough times proves to all what loyal people they have been.

There is no doubt they enjoyed the Tredrea / Delaney eras better than now, but if you aren't happy with what is around you at a footy club, it is a hardly going to be an enjoying time and condusive for playing well.

All four played in our last premiership in 2007 (Maddern was Captain), and they deserved the spoils of that win.
Unfortunately Port District have a bad habit of ignoring these type of players and IMHO believe that "Oh, those guys will be with us forever" type of attitude. It's not always like that!

As for not promoting the kids, Perry is a PDFC junior, and Maddern has only played for Districts when the Port Magpies said No Thanks from about the age of 18.

At the end of the day, PDFC is really, only a very good A2 club, hence our best recent years in 2003 and 2007.
Its a tough comp in A1 and the committee and coaches need to realise this. Unfortunately 2010 will reflect their attitude. It will be a long winter!!

very well said Doc Neeson.
I am not backstabbing Rick, No Mercy- all ive ever said is that i dont rate him as a coach just as i dont rate Chad Cornes kicking for goal- am i not allowed an opinion on an open forum?? Why do u never talk about your team Seaton... always happy to bag other clubs.

And yes i do have a soft spot for Smitham-maybe his a mate... i also have a soft spot for districts but until they start treating and respecting there older players they will continue to struggle and i will continue to talk about them. And the news about Ryan Kelly, doesnt surprise me once again, all the best for him a good player and a good bloke. Good Luck to those boys at Barmera too, got out at the right time.
